A Case of Leprosy Healed by Gurjon Oil and Afterwards by Oil of Turpentine and Mustard

چکیده

Bam Chund, a Hindu male, aged 35 years, was admitted into the Mayo Hospital, on December 3rd, 1875, suffering from Trell-marked leprosy. He stated that he was a native of Kurbat. a village in the Lahore district, and that he gained liia livelihood by cooking pakora. His father and mother were both healtliy, and his brother is also alive and well ; he is not married. lie is not aware of having come in contact with any person suffering from leprosv. He lived principally on chuppatees made of barley or wheatflour and milk, he very rarely tasted fish, but he was not at all attentive to cleanliness. He only changed his clothes about once in twenty days, and as his shop was generally full of smoke from his cooking fire, they were generally very dirty before he had them washed. However he butlied every day, but as this was effected in a small muddy pool in which the cattle of the village used often to stand, it did not greatly improve the condition of his skin. He suffered from syphilis when 16 years old, and after two years time he ras cured by a course of mercurial medicines, and continued well for four years. After which time lie beg;m to feel numbness in the hands and feet, especially in the thumb of the right hand ; but this continued for several years without any other ailment. Afterwards the fingers and toes began to stiffen and contract, and about three years before his admission into the hospital an ulcer occurred on the back of the right hand, and shortly afterwards another formed on the fore finger of the left hand, both of these gradually extended and prevented his continuing his occupation.
