چکیده
Objective: The duplication of optic canals is a rare anomaly found in both sexes, all ages, and various races. The present study was carried out to find the incidence of duplication of optic canal and to study its clinical and developmental significance. Methods: The study included 100 dry human skulls of both the sexes and various age groups. These skulls were studied grossly and morphologically to find out duplication of the optic canals. Results: Additional optic canals were found in 3 skulls (3% cases). Out of them, 2 cases (2%) presented bilateral duplication, whereas in only one case (1%), it was unilateral. Conclusion: Knowledge of additional optic canals is of paramount importance in performing surgical exploration of the optic canal during removal of tumors or decompression of optic canals or surgically accessing the cavernous sinus or sella turcica.

AIM The knowledge of the vasculature around the paracondylar region is important in neurosurgical procedures such as the paracondylar and lateral supracondylar approaches. The objectives of the present study were to determine the prevalence of paracondylar emissary foramina in the adult skull bases and to study the morphology of condylar canals and hypoglossal canals. MATERIAL AND METHODS The...

In India, mutations in Cytochrome P450 (CYP1B1) are a predominant cause of not only primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) but also involved in primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and juvenile onset glaucoma (JOAG). After ethical clearance, 100 POAG patients, 30 primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) patients and 130 ethnically matched controls were recruited in this study. Genomic DNA was is...

متن کاملAnatomical variations and morphometric study of the optic strut and the anterior clinoid process.
The optic strut and the anterior clinoid process represent bony structures that are closely related to anatomically and clinically significant elements such as the cavernous sinus, the internal carotid artery, the optic nerve and the pituitary gland. The objective of our study was to quantify dimensions of the optic strut and anterior clinoid process, and to determine variations in positions an...
