Base Station System Configurations for Future Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems

چکیده
This paper presents a study of base station system configurations for the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). The base station system (BSS), being the interface between the mobile terminal and fixed network, should be capable of handling a huge amount of traffic, mobility, and a high signaling load which is expected in the UMTS. Several functions that should be supported by BSS are envisaged. Special attention is given to the mobility functions (e.&, handover). Functions that are needed to perform a handover are identified. This results in a generic handover functional model. Possible allocation scenarios are examined, taking into account the interconnection methods for the BSS and considering the efficiency and processing delay. The possible scenarios are further evaluated for given traffic and mobility models in different areas and environments.

Background and objectives: In recent decades, progress of telecommunication industry resulted in public availability to cost-effective cellular mobile hence, boom of base stations of cellular mobile in response to vast public demands. Base stations of cellular mobile are specific source of microwave production in a certain frequency in environment. Antennas are installed on high towers to creat...
متن کاملImproving packet delivery in GPRS/UMTS networks
Mobile telecommunication systems such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) provide packetswitched service for mobile terminals. 3GPP Release 4 and Release 5 further offer packet voice over a GPRS/UMTS infrastructure so that IP based communications between mobile to mobile is expected to be one of the major traffic types in the future 3G Al...
متن کاملCoverage and Capacity Prediction in Cellular Network
Cell breathing technique is commonly used in cellular network such as Wideband code division multiple Accesses (WCDMA) to overcome load congestion by expanding or shrinking the cell coverage. Cell breathing allows the available access point to reconfigure the cell boundaries by changing the transmitted power. In the design of cell in mobile communication systems, path loss prediction models pla...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of 3-Stage Cell Search Process in a WCDMA System
In this article, we study the performance benefits of the cell search algorithm. The purpose of the cell search algorithm in Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems (UMTS) is to estimate the spreading code of the serving base-station and its corresponding timing offset. We study the performance benefits of estimating multiple “code-time” hypotheses in each stage of the cell search process. I...

ODMA (Opportunity Driven Multiple Access) is an optional extension of the third generation mobile communication standard called UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System). It de-nes a special ad-hoc network, where each mobile node that wants to communicate has to connect to the base station with the assistance of the forthcoming mobile nodes. So in this ad-hoc network the destination is x...
