Antioxidant Potential of Seasonal Fruits in Fluoride Toxicity: an in Vitro Study
نویسنده
چکیده
The present study was undertaken to investigate the antioxidant potential of ethanolic extracts of four fruits Indian gooseberry, mango, star fruit and wood apple on the oxidative changes in hepatic tissue exposed to sodium fluoride in vitro. Liver homogenates were exposed to NaF and subsequently treated with ethanolic extracts of fruits and the levels of antioxidants (ascorbic acid, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione, glutathione peroxidase) and lipid peroxidation (TBARS) were determined. Results indicated that of the four fruits tested, gooseberry exhibited a maximum potency in reducing the lipid peroxidation (56.70%) and increased the antioxidants TAA, SOD, CAT, GsH and GPX where as wood apple was found to possess a comparatively low antioxidant potential.

The antioxidant activity and phytoconstituents of the hydromethanolic extract of Litchi chinensis (HELC) fruit was explored in the present study. The antioxidant potential of extract has been evaluated using several antioxidant models and results were compared to standards. Fruit extract showed effective reducing power and free radical scavenging activity in a dose-dependent manner. In case o...

A vast majority of the studies addressing the free radicals including hydroxyl radical is a damage compound of biochemical molecules such as DNA, proteins and lipids. When free radicals specially hydroxyl radical are not adequately removed from the body, it may damage biological macromolecules, leading to a variety of disease occurs. Therefore, the body should be protected by an enzymatic or no...

Fluoride toxicity occurs due to high concentrations of fluoride in water sources or anthropogenic causes. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of an Ayurvedic drug--Pankajakasthuri (PK)--in relation to fluoride-induced toxicity in mammalian lungs. The results indicated that sodium fluoride increased lipid peroxidation and decreased enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants...

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of troxerutin (TXN) on Nickel (Ni) toxicity by using rats and in vitro model. Ni toxicity induced in male albino wistar rats (20 mg/kg body weight (b.w) was administered orally for 20 days). TXN was administered orally (100 mg/kg (b.w) for 20 days with administration of Ni. The toxic effect of Ni and the action of TXN was measure by determ...
