چکیده

This paper presents an ultrasound piezoceramic transducer, centred into an extracorporeal shock wave lithotriptor system. The electromagnetic acoustic source lithotriptor initiates the incident shock waves into the water, and the ultrasound transducer improves the caviational effects of the bubbles. The piezoelectric transducer is powered by a Function/Pulse Generator type IWATSU SG-4511, and converts the electrical signal mechanical vibrations, which are propagated into the water. The underwater waves, received by the PZT disc sensor, are converted electrical signals and displayed by an oscilloscope type LeCroy 9310 AM. The transducer exhibits low resonance frequency, tuneable energy, broad bandwidth, between 16 kHz to 36 kHz, and low quality factor, that means it is optimum for this application. The extracorporeal shock wave lithotriptor system generates cavitation bubbles that have an essential role in the disintegration of renal calculi.

Antibiotic prophylaxis in the prevention of urinary tract infection in patients with sterile urine before extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy

Background: One of the lithotripsy complications is urinary tract infection (UTI) and sepsis after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). The aim was to study the prophylactic effect of antibiotics on UTI after ESWL. Methods: This randomized double-blind clinical trial was carried out on 600 patients admitted to Babol Clinic hospital in 2014-2015. Patients were randomly divided into tre...

Abdominal Compartment Syndrome and Necrotizing Pancreatitis Following Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a common procedure in the treatment of renal calculi. There have been major complications reported with ESWL such as acute pancreatitis, bower perforation, venous thrombosis, and biliary obstruction. There are few reports in the literature of necrotizing pancreatitis secondary to ESWL. We have a case report of a 29-year-old female that developed a...

Experience of extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy for kidney and upper ureteric stones by electromagnetic lithotriptor.

BACKGROUND Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) is a non-invasive treatment of urinary stones which breaks them, by using externally applied, focused, high intensity acoustic pulse, into smaller pieces so that they can pass easily through ureter. Shock wave generation, focusing, coupling and stone localisation by fluoroscope or ultrasound are the basic components of ESWL. ESWL has some ...

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy 25 years later: complications and their prevention.

OBJECTIVE We review the pathophysiology and possible prevention measures of complications after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). METHODS A literature search was performed with the Medline database on ESWL between 1980 and 2004. RESULTS ESWL application has been intuitively connected to complications. These are related mostly to residual stone fragments, infections, and effects ...
