Assessing the Feasibility of Using Microsoft NetMeeting in Distance Education

Abstract One of the weaknesses of most Web-based distance education systems is the lack of adequate, synchronous, interaction between instructor and students. An easy and inexpensive solution to this problem can be obtained by using an off-theshelf collaboration tool. In this paper we examine one of those tools, Microsoft NetMeeting. NetMeeting’s main technical features, pros and cons are presented and its suitability for educational applications is evaluated. Based on the collected facts, a recommendation for the decision-maker is presented at the end of the article.
