چکیده
The striking clinical benefits of intermittent parathyroid hormone in osteoporosis have begun a new era of skeletal anabolic agents. One potential new agent is monoclonal antibody to sclerostin, a potent inhibitor of osteoblastogenesis.

Survey of the Status of Iron and Sclerostin in Major Thalassemia Patients
Background and Aims: Thalassemia is one the most prevalent genetic anemia in the world; homozygote patients usually suffer from severe disturbances. Osteopenia and osteoporosis are of various types of thalassemia complications which increase in rate in patients with iron overload conditions. Sclerostin is a protein which enhances bone loss by inhibiting osteoblasts. The aim of this study was to...
متن کاملRelation of Age, Gender, and Bone Mass to Circulating Sclerostin Levels in Women and Men
Sclerostin is a potent inhibitor of Wnt signaling and bone formation. However, there is currently no information on the relation of circulating sclerostin levels to age, gender, or bone mass in humans. Thus we measured serum sclerostin levels in a population-based sample of 362 women [123 premenopausal, 152 postmenopausal not on estrogen treatment (ET), and 87 postmenopausal on ET] and 318 men,...
متن کاملSclerostin quo vadis? - is this a useful long-term mortality parameter in prevalent hemodialysis patients?
BACKGROUND/AIMS Cardiovascular calcification contributes to the increased mortality in hemodialysis patients. Sclerostin was identified as an antianabolic bone factor causing soft tissue calcification. Data on prospective large-scale studies associating sclerostin with mortality in hemodialysis patients are so far inconsistent. METHODS In our multicenter prospective longitudinal study followi...
متن کاملSclerostin and Dkk-1 in patients with ankylosing spondylitis.
OBJECTIVE To determine the serum Dickkopf-related protein 1 (Dkk-1) and sclerostin levels, and their relationship to structural damage and disease activity in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), as well as to compare the serum Dkk-1 and sclerostin levels in patients receiving and not receiving anti-TNF-a treatment. MATERIALS AND METHOds: This cross-sectional study included 44 AS patients...
متن کاملCirculating sclerostin in children and young adults with heritable bone disorders.
CONTEXT Sclerostin is an inhibitor of bone formation and is an important determinant of bone mass. The role of sclerostin in heritable metabolic bone disorders has not been studied in detail. OBJECTIVE We evaluated serum sclerostin levels in patients with X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets (XLH) and osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) and analyzed the relationship of circulating sclerostin concentrat...
متن کاملGender differences in sclerostin and clinical characteristics in type 1 diabetes mellitus.
BACKGROUND Sclerostin is an osteocyte-derived inhibitor of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which acts as a negative regulator of bone formation. Published data on sclerostin levels in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) are few. OBJECTIVE To evaluate gender differences in sclerostin serum levels and the association among sclerostin, bone mass, bone metabolism, and the main clinical character...
