Bacillus subtilis A Potential Probiotic Bacterium to Formulate Functional Feeds for Aquaculture
نویسنده
چکیده
In shrimp/fish aquaculture, feed represents the most expensive production cost. The quantity and quality of diets are primary factors influencing shrimp/fish growth, health status, disease prevention, pound contamination and expenses. Utilization of probiotic bacteria has emerged as a solution with enormous applications in the aquaculture feeding industry. Bacillus species principally B. subtilis are one of the most investigated bacteria for animal probiotic development due to: a) versatility of growth nutrients utilization, b) high level of enzymes production, c) secretion of antimicrobial compounds, d) spore producers, e) develops in aerobic and anaerobic conditions, and f) B. subtilis is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Functional feeds development with alternative-economic nutrient vegetable sources of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and Bacillus subtilis probiotic strains, must be considered in shrimp/fish aquaculture production systems; as an option to eliminate animal feed ingredients, improves digestion-assimilation, reduce water pollution and diseases, and to increase yields and profits. Functional feed supplemented with alternative-economic nutrient sources (protein, carbohydrates, lipids) and probiotics are being considered in shrimp/fish aquaculture production systems as an option to increase yield and profits and to reduce water pollution. In this study the probiotic potential to formulate functional feeds have been evaluated using four dietary treatments: Treatment 1 (B + ...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of the Gluten-Hydrolyzing Bacterium Bacillus subtilis GS 188, Isolated from Wheat Sourdough
The draft genome sequence of Bacillus subtilis GS 188, a novel spore-forming probiotic bacterium with gluten-hydrolyzing potential, was isolated from wheat sourdough and provides deep insights into the beneficial features of this strain for its use in the preparation of gluten-reduced wheat foods for humans with celiac disease.
متن کاملIsolation, identification and molecular characterization of potential probiotic bacterium, Bacillus subtilis PPP 13 from Penaeus monodon
The beneficial effects of probiotics have been attributed to their ability to promote the immunological and nonimmunological defense barrier in the gut, normalization of increased intestinal permeability and altered gut microflora. Twelve different intestinal bacterial colonies were isolated from Black Tiger Shrimp (Penaeus monodon). Among them strain PPP 13 was studied and characterized due to...
متن کاملThe ability of marine Bacillus spp. isolated from fish gastrointestinal tract and culture pond sediment to inhibit growth of aquatic pathogenic bacteria
In this research, antagonistic activity of two Bacillus species isolated from digestive tract of marine fish and culture pond of sea cucumber was studied. The inhibitory activity of Bacillus spp. isolates against some common pathogenic bacteria of fish was assessed using the agar diffusion method. The strain of B. subtilis G024 exhibited antimicrobial activity against Vibrio anguillarum, V. har...

The aim of this study was to screen potential probiotic bacteria against Aeromonas hydrophila and determine the effects of antagonistic bacteria and a commercial product containing lactic acid bacteria on the survival and growth of stage II Astacus leptodactylus juveniles. For this purpose, a total of 110 bacterial strains were isolated from adult, stage II crayfish juveniles and rearing water ...
