librated with 0.02 AI KPO4, pH 8.0, containing 0.01 M 2-mercaptoethanol. Linear gradients were applied and the purifications obtained are expressed relative to the supernatant fluid of the sonic extract; all solutions contained 0.01 Al 2-mereaptoethanol. Glucosylating enzyme: gradient of 0.08 to 0.32 M NaCl in 0.02 M KPO4, pH 8.0-30X purification; dCTPase: gradient of 0.08 M to 0.32 Ml NaCl in 0.02 M KPO4, pH 8.0-24X purification, rechromatographed with a gradient of 0.06-0.32 M KPO4, pH 6.5-85X purification; dHMC-5-P kinase: gradient of 0.06 to 0.32 M KPO4, pH 6.5-20X purification; hydroxymethylating enzyme: gradient of 0.3 M KPO4, pH 6.5 to 1.0 M KPO4, pH 6.1-230X purification. Fractions containing 2-mercaptoethanol were not frozen. Active fractions were concentrated by precipitation with solid (NH4)2SO4. Further details of the purification procedures will be published elsewhere. 20 Glaser, L., and D. Brown, these PROCEEDINGS, 41, 253 (1955); Glaser, L., J. Biol. Dr. Fred Bergmann has found no changes, following T2 infection of E. coli B, in amino acid "activation" levels for valine, isoleucine, methionine, leucine, phenylalanine, tryptophan, and tyrosine. We have observed that levels of the following activities did not change (4±20 per cent) within 15 min after E. coli B infection with phage T2: PRPP synthetase, orotate + PRPP conversion to uridylate, inorganic pyrophosphatase, adenine + PRPP conversion to adenylate, and adenylate kinase. 32 Hogness, D. RESPONSES OF OXYGEN CONSUMPTION, HEART RATE AND PERCEIVED EXERTION TO CRUTCH WALKING: A COMPARISON BE TWEEN PAR APLEGIC AND ABLE-BODIED SUBJECTS
In this study, 10 normal volunteers and 5 sports-trained paraplegics with lesions between T6 and L2 were studied whilst walking with axillary crutches and knee-anlde-foot orthoses. All subjects walked at their preferred speed on a figureof- eight track. Normal subjects also walked at slower and faster speeds. Oxygen consumption, heart rate and rating of perceived exertion were measured. In...

Introduction: There is a strong correlation between muscle weakness and the mobility children with cerebral palsy. For this reason, the focus of the intervention programs has been changed to to resistance exercises. The purpose of this study was effect of group resistance exercise with exciting music on spasticity, muscle strength and walking ability for children with cerebral palsy. Methods: T...
متن کاملمقایسه فعالیت الکتریکی عضلات ساق پا در افراد با پای صاف و پای طبیعی حین راه رفتن روی نوارگردان با سرعتهای مختلف
Background: The muscles activity of individuals with flat foot play an important role in identifying the causes of these people’s vulnerability. The rate and pattern of muscles activity depends on the speed of walking and so far, difference in muscles activity of individuals with flat foot and normal during walking with different speeds remains unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this inve...
متن کاملWalking on inclines: energetics of locomotion in the ant Camponotus.
To assess energetic costs during rest and locomotion in a small insect, we measured metabolic rate in freely moving ants Camponotus sp. (average body mass 11.9 mg). The animals ran in a straight respirometric chamber in which locomotor speed and CO2 release were monitored simultaneously using flow-through respirometry and conventional video analysis. In resting intact ants, standard metabolic r...
متن کاملThe Effect of Lower Limb Resistance Exercise with Elastic Band on Balance, Walking Speed, and Muscle Strength in Elderly Women
Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an 8-week resistance exercise program on balance, walking speed, and muscle strength in elderly women. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was performed on 50 elderly women aged 60-66 years who were assigned to two groups of experimental and control. The Time Up and Go test, was used to measure dynamic balance, Rombe...
متن کاملsEMG Characteristics of the Lower Extremity Muscles During Walking in Mentally Retarded Adolescents
Purpose: Less attention has been paid to the electromyographic activity of the lower extremity muscles, which is considered as an essential part of the kinetic studies on the gait of mentally retarded individuals. Hence, the study aims at determining the surface electromyography characteristics of the lower extremity muscles of mentally retarded adolescents during walking. Methods: It is a cau...
