Proceedings of the XIV IAGA Workshop on Geomagnetic Observatory Instruments, Data Acquisition, and Processing - Preface
نویسنده
چکیده
The XIVth IAGA Workshop on Geomagnetic Observatory Instruments, Data Acquisition, and Processing was the first of its kind to take place in China, the country regarded as the birthplace of geomagnetism. These workshops are scheduled to take place every 2 years, and as such, it is an important meeting for all magnetic observatories to attend. These workshops serve to provide the standard of observation and measurement techniques. The purpose of the XIVth IAGA Workshop on Geomagnetic Observatory Instruments, Data Acquisition, and Processing is to examine the practical and theoretical challenges of observations of the Earth’s magnetic field at Geomagnetic Observatories. The fundamental goal of the Workshop was the exchange of information, tools, and experience relating to the methodology of such observations. The Workshop was divided into two parts: measurement sessions and scientific sessions. It also included lectures and training sessions related to magnetic observations. The Workshop was attended by approximately 80 participants with 45 participants coming from countries outside China.

Report on the Measurement Session During the XIVth IAGA Workshop at Changchun Magnetic Observatory
The Absolute Measurement Session during the XIVth IAGA Workshop on Geomagnetic Observatory Instruments, Data Acquisition and Processing was held at the Changchun Magnetic Observatory (CNH) September 14-17, 2010. Approximately 50 participants joined in this session. During the session, 27 DI-Flux magnetometers were used to make and compare measurements, and several total field comparison measure...
متن کاملOn the Influence of the Data Sampling Interval on Computer-Derived K-Indices
The K index was devised by Bartels et al. (1939) to provide an objective monitoring of irregular geomagnetic activity. The K index was then routinely used to monitor the magnetic activity at permanent magnetic observatories as well as at temporary stations. The increasing number of digital and sometimes unmanned observatories and the creation of INTERMAGNET put the question of computer producti...
متن کاملThe Contribution of a Geophysical Data Service: The International Service of Geomagnetic Indices
Geomagnetic indices are basic data in Solar-Terrestrial physics, and for operational Space Weather activities. The International Service of Geomagnetic Indices (ISGI) is in charge of the derivation and dissemination of geomagnetic indices that are acknowledged by the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA, an IUGG association). Institutes which are not part of ISGI started...
متن کاملMaraghe Observatory and an Effort towards Retrieval of Architectural Design of Astronomical Units
Maraghe observatory was built by such engineers as Moayiededdin Orozi etc. under supervision of Khaje Nasireddin Tousi in 7th century AH. The most significant feature associated with Maraghe observatory is the fact that architecture is employed to achieve astronomical purposes in this site. The reason for preferring observatory by astronomers was the fact that these units are superior to wooden...
متن کاملThe British Geological Survey's New Geomagnetic Data Web Service
Increasing demand within the geomagnetism community for high quality real-time or near-real-time observatory data means there is a requirement for data producers to have a robust and scalable data processing infrastructure capable of delivering geomagnetic data products over the Internet in a variety of formats. We describe a new software system, developed at BGS, which will allow access to our...
