O-Acetyl groups as a component of the bacteriophage receptor on Staphylococcus aureus cell walls.

چکیده
The capacity of Staphylococcus aureus H cell walls to inactivate bacteriophage 52A was lost by removing O-acetyl groups but not by removing ester-linked d-alanine.

Studies on the Interactions between Components of Staphylococcus Aureus and Staphylococcus Bacteriophage
The cell walls of Staphylococcus aureus are capable of inactivating S. aureus bacteriophage. Furthermore, the cell walls isolated from S. aureus of a given phage type inactivate a variety of different staphylococcal bacteriophages. Under the conditions employed neither the isolated mucopeptide nor teichoic acid components of the cell walls act as bacteriophage receptor.
متن کاملUse of bacteriophage-resistant mutants to study the nature of the bacteriophage receptor site of Staphylococcus aureus.
Bacteriophage-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus H were isolated after mutagenesis with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine. Cell walls isolated from about half of these resistant strains were incapable of inactivating phages and were shown to lack N-acetyl-d-glucosamine (GlcNAc) in their cell wall teichoic acid. Apart from the lack of GlcNAc, two of these mutant strains were deficient...
متن کاملUnique teichoic acid isolated from the cell walls of a strain of Staphylococcus aureus.
Teichoic acid antigen extracted from cell walls of a strain of Staphylococcus aureus has been shown to have the unique structure of glycerolphosphate, with N-acetyl-d-galactosamine as the immunodominant substituent.
متن کاملIsolation, characterization and therapeutic potential assessment of bacteriophages virulent to Staphylococcus aureus associated with goat mastitis
In the present study, the therapeutic potential of bacteriophages virulent to Staphylococcus aureus associated with goat mastitis were isolated, identified and assessed. Staphylococcus aureus (host or indicator bacterium) was isolated from a goat suffering from clinical mastitis. Based on cultural, morphological, biochemical tests and amplification of S. aureus specific thermonuclease gene inPC...
متن کاملIn silico analysis of AHJD-like viruses, Staphylococcus aureus phages S24-1 and S13′, and study of phage S24-1 adsorption
Staphylococcus aureus is a clinically important bacterium that is commensal in both humans and animals. Bacteriophage (phage) attachment to the host bacterial surface is an important process during phage infection, which involves interactions between phage receptor-binding proteins and host receptor molecules. However, little information is available on the receptor-binding protein of S. aureus...
