Modeling Rational Agents within a BDI-Architecture

چکیده
Intentions, an integral part of the mental state of an agent, play an important role in determining the behavior of rational agents as they seek to attain their goals. In this paper, a formalization of intentions based on a branching-time possible-worlds model is presented. It is shown how the formalism realizes many of the important elements of Bratman's theory of intention. In particular, the notion of intention developed here has equal status with the notions of belief and desire, and cannot be reduced to these concepts. This allows di erent types of rational agents to be modeled by imposing certain conditions on the persistence of an agent's beliefs, goals, and intentions. Finally, the formalism is compared with Bratman's theory of intention and Cohen and Levesque's formalization of intentions.

The OK BDI Architecture
The design of a belief-desire-intention (BDI) architecture is presented. The architecture is deened using a uniied object-based knowledge representation formalism, called the OK formalism, and a uniied reasoning and acting module, called the OK rational engine. Together they form the OK BDI architecture for modeling rational agents endowed with beliefs, desires, and intentions.

In this paper, our ongoing work on a hybrid, connectionist and belief-desire-intention (BDI) based, ratiohal agent architecture is described. The architecture makes specific commitments in order to achieve a harmony among the tasks of reasoning and acting. The architecture uses a bottom-up learning strategy to acquire rules for reactive behavior. Embedded Agents: From Reactive to

The BDI model is well accepted as an architecture for representing and realizing rational agents. The beliefs in this model are focused on the representation of beliefs about the world and other agents and are widely independent from the agents intentions. We argue that also the representation of know-how, which captures the beliefs about actions and procedures, has to be taken into account whe...

متن کاملTHÈSE Pour l’obtention du grade de DOCTEUR D’UNIVERSITÉ Discipline: INFORMATIQUE
The goal of this thesis is to study the issue of rational BDI learning agents, situated in a multi-agent system. A rational agent can be defined as a cognitive entity endowed with intentional attitudes, e.g., beliefs, desires, and intentions (BDI). First, we study the concepts of agency and practical reasoning, allowing agents to induce from their intentional attitudes, a behavior identified as...
متن کاملA Goal Deliberation Strategy for BDI Agent Systems
One aspect of rational behavior is that agents can pursue multiple goals in parallel. Current BDI theory and systems do not provide a theoretical or architectural framework for deciding how goals interact and how an agent can decide which goals to pursue. Instead, they assume for simplicity reasons that agents always pursue consistent goal sets. By omitting this important aspect of rationality,...
