Brachial plexus injury - from double to triple FFMT
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction The concept of double free functioning muscle transfer (DFFMT) reconstruction for total arm type brachial plexus injury (BPI) had been successfully reported by Professor Doi from Japan. However, to overcome the weakness of finger/wrist extension after serving two functions by one gracilis muscle as described by Doi, we invented a new method of triple FFMT. This study was aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of triple FFMT for total arm type BPI reconstruction. Methods From 2001 to 2010, 85 patients received FFMT for total arm type BPI. Five patients were excluded from this study due to inadequate vascular pattern (type B2) for DFFMT. Therefore, we had total 80 patients received the 1 stage free gracilis-adductor DFFMT and the 2 stage single gracilis FFMT; so called “Triple FFMT”; for complete total avulsion BPI. There were 70 males and 10 females. The average age was 33.5 years old. The shoulder function was reconstructed by neurotization.

Free functioning gracilis transfer for traumatic brachial plexus injuries in children.
PURPOSE To report our technique and experience with use of free functioning muscle transfer (FFMT) in reconstruction of traumatic brachial plexus injuries (BPIs) in children as well as its complications and outcomes. METHODS Twelve patients with complete BPI underwent FFMT for reconstruction between 2000 and 2012. Eight had single-stage gracilis transfer for restoration of elbow flexion, and ...

plexus injury. Few studies report the rate of revision surgeries following free functional muscle transfers. We examinedthe reoperation rate and indication for reoperation after primary reconstruction of upper extremity function with a freegracilis transfer after brachial plexus injury. Methods: From 2003-2016, we identified 25 patients who underwent a free functional gracilis ...

Results The number of operative cases of brachial plexus injury increase each year. Fifty nine percent of cases were managed in public hospitals and 41% in private hospitals. Most of the patients were males (86%) and the rest were females (14%). Brachial plexus injury was most prevalent between 21-30 years of age (37%). Motor vehicle accident was the most frequent mode of injury (90%). The righ...

Background: Variations of the brachial plexus are common and a better awareness of the variations is of crucial importance to achieve successful results in its surgical procedures. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the anatomical variations of the brachial plexus in adult cadavers. Methods: Bilateral upper limbs of 32 fresh cadavers (21 males and 11 females) consecutively referre...
متن کاملMRI of axillary brachial plexus blocks
BACKGROUND Axillary plexus blocks are usually guided by ultrasound, but alternative methods may be used when ultrasound equipment is lacking. For a nonultrasound-guided axillary block, the need for three injections has been questioned. OBJECTIVES Could differences in block success between single, double and triple deposits methods be explained by differences in local anaesthetic distribution ...
