Parametrization of stochastic multiscale triads

چکیده
We discuss applications of a recently developed method for model reduction based on linear response theory of weakly coupled dynamical systems. We apply the weak coupling method to simple stochastic differential equations with slow and fast degrees of freedom. The weak coupling model reduction method results in general in a non-Markovian system, we therefore discuss the Markovianization of the system to allow for straightforward numerical integration. We compare the applied method to the equations obtained through homogenization in the limit of large time scale separation between slow 5 and fast degrees of freedom. We numerically compare the ensemble spread from a fixed initial condition, correlation functions and exit times from a domain. The weak coupling method gives more accurate results in all test cases, albeit with a higher numerical cost.

متن کاملMultiscale Stochastic Volatility Asymptotics
In this paper we propose to use a combination of regular and singular perturbations to analyze parabolic PDEs that arise in the context of pricing options when the volatility is a stochastic process that varies on several characteristic time scales. The classical Black-Scholes formula gives the price of call options when the underlying is a geometric Brownian motion with a constant volatility. ...
متن کاملStochastic parametrization of multiscale processes using a dual-grid approach.
Some speculative proposals are made for extending current stochastic sub-gridscale parametrization methods using the techniques adopted from the field of computer graphics and flow visualization. The idea is to emulate sub-filter-scale physical process organization and time evolution on a fine grid and couple the implied coarse-grained tendencies with a forecast model. A two-way interaction is ...
متن کاملLinear theory for filtering nonlinear multiscale systems with model error.
In this paper, we study filtering of multiscale dynamical systems with model error arising from limitations in resolving the smaller scale processes. In particular, the analysis assumes the availability of continuous-time noisy observations of all components of the slow variables. Mathematically, this paper presents new results on higher order asymptotic expansion of the first two moments of a ...
متن کاملStochastic averaging for SDEs with Hopf Drift and polynomial diffusion coefficients
It is known that a stochastic differential equation (SDE) induces two probabilistic objects, namely a difusion process and a stochastic flow. While the diffusion process is determined by the innitesimal mean and variance given by the coefficients of the SDE, this is not the case for the stochastic flow induced by the SDE. In order to characterize the stochastic flow uniquely the innitesimal cov...
