چکیده

A method for determining salicylates in ultramicro volumes of blood, spinal fluid, and urine has been investigated. This method combines the simplicity of one reagent for color development and deproteinization with a high degree of accuracy and precision. Apparent salicylate values in blood and spinal fluid of normal individuals are of the order of 0.7 mg./100 ml. The application of this method to analysis of capillary samples of blood would be of value in the treatment of salicylate poisoning in children and in the maintenance of therapeutic salicylate levels in pediatric practice.

An ultramicro colorimetric method for determination of total and direct serum bilirubin.

A simple reproducible method for the ultramicro determination of total and direct serum bilirubin is presented. This method provides a greater sensitivity than that obtained with other colorimetric ultramicro procedures. Total bilirubin values agree with those obtained with the macro Malloy-Evelyn procedure, but direct-reading bilirubin values were significantly higher with the presented method.

Semimicro method for the determination of salicylate levels in blood.

WIDE VARIETY OF METHODS are available for the determination of salicylate in body fluids and tissues. These range from the spot test type used at the patients’ bedside to the organic solvent partition methods employed in more exact studies. In recent years, the method of Brodie et al. (1) involving extraction with ethylene chloride has gained widespread acceptance. The method commonly employs 1...

Determination of Thermo-physical Properties of Non-Newtonian Fluids Using a Coaxial Cylindrical Cell

In this study the thermal conductivity and the volumetric heat capacity of non-Newtonian fluids are investigated. These fluids find many applications in chemical, medical and food industries. They mostly have viscoelastic behavior and generally differ from Newtonian fluids. Two non-Newtonian fluids, solutions of xanthan and carboxy methyl cellulose in water with various concentrations have bee...

Barbiturate detection using thin-layer chromatography.

NilEDICATIONS are one of the leading causes of fatal and nonfatal poisonings. Of all medications, salicylates (in children) and barbiturates (in adults) are most frequently involved in these poisonings. When these occur, the physician treating the victim may request a chemical analysis of a blood sample to confirm his clinical impression. A salicylate analysis is simple and rapid (1). However, ...
