DSC time-domain solution of Maxwell s equations

چکیده
A new computational algorithm, the discrete singular convolution (DSC), is introduced for solving scattering and guided wave problems described by time-domain Maxwell s equations. The DSC algorithm is utilized for the spatial discretization and the fourth-order Runge–Kutta scheme is used for the time advancing. Staggered meshes are used for electromagnetic fields. Four standard test problems, a hollow air-filled waveguide, a dielectric slab-loaded rectangular waveguide, a shield microstrip line and a dielectric square, are employed to illustrate the usefulness, to test the accuracy and to explore the limitation of the DSC algorithm. Results are compared with those of finite difference, scaling function multi-resolution time domain, and finite element-based high frequency structure simulator. Numerical experiments indicate that the present algorithm is a promising approach for achieving high accuracy in electromagnetic wave computations. 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Perfectly matched layers for Maxwell s equations in second order formulation q
We consider the two-dimensional Maxwell s equations in domains external to perfectly conducting objects of complex shape. The equations are discretized using a node-centered finite-difference scheme on a Cartesian grid and the boundary condition are discretized to second order accuracy employing an embedded technique which does not suffer from a ‘‘small-cell’’ time-step restriction in the expli...

A mathematical model considering mass and momentum transfer was developed for simulation of ethanol dewatering via pervaporation process. The process involves removal of water from a water/ethanol liquid mixture using a dense polymeric membrane. The model domain was divided into two compartments including feed and membrane. For a description of water transport in ...
متن کاملExponential decay for Maxwell equations with a boundary memory condition
We study the asymptotic behavior of the solution of the Maxwell equations with the following boundary condition of memory type Eτ (t) = η0H(t)× n + ∫ ∞ 0 η(s)H(t− s)× n ds. We consider a ‘Graffi’ type free energy and we prove that, if the kernel η satisfies the condition η′′ + κ η′ > 0 and the domain Ω is strongly star shaped, then the energy of the solution exponentially decays. We also prove ...

The extension of the conventional finite-difference time-domain solution of the full vector Maxwell equations to modeling femtosecond optical-pulse propagation in a nonlinear Kerr medium that exhibits a finite response time is presented. Numerical results are given for nonlinear self-focusing in two space dimensions and time; the technique can be generalized to three space dimensions with adequ...
متن کاملThe Leontovich Boundary Value Problem for the Time-harmonic Maxwell Equations
The limiting behavior of the unique solution to Maxwell's equations in an exterior domain with a Leontovich boundary condition as the impedance tends to zero is investigated. This is accomplished by reducing the impedance boundary value problem for the Maxwell equations to a system of three integral equations. It is shown that the Leontovich boundary condition leads to a singular perturbation p...
