New prediction of extragalactic GeV γ-ray emission from radio lobes of young AGN jets

چکیده
We present a new prediction of GeV γ-ray emission from radio lobes of young AGN jets. In the previous work of Kino et al. (2007), MeV γ-ray bremsstrahlung emission was predicted from young cocoons/radio-lobes in the regime of no coolings. In this study, we include cooling effects of bremsstrahlung emission and adiabatic loss. With the initial conditions determined by observed young radio lobes, we solve a set of equations describing the expanding lobe evolution. Then we find that the lobes initially have electron temperature of ∼GeV, and they cool down to ∼MeV by the adiabatic loss. Correspondingly, the lobes initially yield bright bremsstrahlung luminosity in ∼GeV range and they fade out. We estimate these γ-ray emissions and show that nearby young radio lobes could be detected with Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope.

Panchromatic Views of Large-scale Extragalactic Jets
Highlights of recent observations of extended jets in AGN are presented. Specifically, we discuss new spectral constraints enabled by Spitzer, studies of the highest-redshift (z∼4) radio/X-ray quasar jets, and a new VLBA detection of superluminal motion in the M87 jet associated with a recent dramatic X-ray outburst. Expanding on the title, inverse Compton emission from extended radio lobes is ...
متن کاملOn the Relation between Agn Gamma-ray Emission and Parsec-scale Radio Jets
We have compared the radio emission from a sample of parsec-scale AGN jets as measured by the VLBA at 15 GHz, with their associated γ-ray properties that are reported in the Fermi LAT 3-month bright source list. We find in our radio-selected sample that the γ-ray photon flux correlates well with the quasi-simultaneously measured compact radio flux density. The LAT-detected jets in our radio-sel...
متن کاملOn the Contribution of Unresolved Blazars to the Extragalactic Gamma Ray Background
We present a model for estimating the blazar contribution to the extragalactic γ-ray background (EGRB) in the EGRET energy range. It is based on inverse-Compton scattering as the dominant γ-ray production process in the jets of flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and BL Lac objects, and on the unification scheme of radio-loud AGN. Depending on the evolutionary behaviour of radio-loud AGN, our e...
متن کاملAgn Models: High-energy Emission
Astrophysical models for the high-energy emission of blazars are reviewed. Blazars ejecting relativistic radio jets at small angles to the line-of-sight are the only type of active galactic nuclei (AGN) discovered above 100 MeV. The γ-rays apparently originate in the jets which explains the absence of γ-ray pair creation attenuation. The bulk Lorentz factor of the radio jets is much smaller tha...
متن کاملRelativistic jets in narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies. New discoveries and open questions
Before the launch of the Fermi satellite only two classes of AGNs were known to produce relativistic jets and thus emit up to the γ-ray energy range: blazars and radio galaxies, both hosted in giant elliptical galaxies. The first four years of observations by the Large Area Telescope on board Fermi confirmed that these two are the most numerous classes of identified sources in the extragalactic...
