چکیده

Permeability of the outer membrane to 6-aminopenicillanic acid was unaltered in an lpo mutant, lacking the Braun lipoprotein, a result suggesting that the lipoproteins by themselves form no or few diffusion pores.

Outer membrane protein A, peptidoglycan-associated lipoprotein, and murein lipoprotein are released by Escherichia coli bacteria into serum.

Complexes containing lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and three outer membrane proteins (OMPs) are released by gram-negative bacteria incubated in human serum and into the circulation in an experimental model of sepsis. The same OMPs are bound by immunoglobulin G (IgG) in the cross-protective antiserum raised to Escherichia coli J5 (anti-J5 IgG). This study was performed to identify the three OMPs. The...

Study of Mutations in the DNA gyrase gyrA Gene of Escherichia coli

Quinolones are a large and widely consumed class of synthetic drugs. Expanded-spectrum quinolones, like ciprofloxacin are highly effective against Gram-negative bacteria, especially Escherichia coli. In E. coli the major target for quinolones is DNA gyrase. This enzyme is composed of two subunits, GyrA and GyrB encoding by gyrA and gyrB, respectively. Mutations in either of these genes cause qu...

Skp, a molecular chaperone of gram-negative bacteria, is required for the formation of soluble periplasmic intermediates of outer membrane proteins.

Using a cross-linking approach, we have analyzed the function of Skp, a presumed molecular chaperone of the periplasmic space of Escherichia coli, during the biogenesis of an outer membrane protein (OmpA). Following its transmembrane translocation, OmpA interacts with Skp in close vicinity to the plasma membrane. In vitro, Skp was also found to bind strongly and specifically to pOmpA nascent ch...

The C-tail anchored TssL subunit, an essential protein of the enteroaggregative Escherichia coli Sci-1 Type VI secretion system, is inserted by YidC

Type VI secretion systems (T6SS) are macromolecular complexes present in Gram-negative bacteria. T6SS are structurally similar to the bacteriophage cell-puncturing device and have been shown to mediate bacteria-host or bacteria-bacteria interactions. T6SS assemble from 13 to 20 proteins. In enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC), one of the subassemblies is composed of four proteins that for...
