A Proximity-Based Self-Organizing Hierarchical Overlay Framework for Distributed Hash Tables

چکیده
Several structured peer-to-peer networks have been created to solve the scalability problem of previous peer-to-peer systems such as Gnutella and Napster. These peer-to-peer networks which support distributed hash table functionality construct a sort of structured overlay network, which can cause a topology mismatch between the overlay and the underlying physical network. To solve this mismatch problem, we propose a topology-aware hierarchical overlay framework for DHTs. The hierarchical approach for the overlay is based on the concept that the underlying global Internet is also a hierarchical architecture, that is, a network of networks. This hierarchical approach for the overlay puts forth two benefits: finding data in a physically near place with a high probability, and smaller lookup time. Our hierarchical overlay framework is different from other hierarchical architecture systems in a sense that it provides a specific selforganizing grouping algorithm. Our additional optimization schemes complete the basic algorithm which constructs a hierarchical structure without any central control. key words: peer-to-peer, DHT, physical topology, hierarchical architecture, overlay network, efficient replication

Exploiting Network Proximity in Distributed Hash Tables
Self-organizing peer-to-peer (p2p) overlay networks like CAN, Chord, Pastry and Tapestry (also called distributed hash tables or DHTs) offer a novel platform for a variety of scalable and decentralized distributed applications. These systems provide efficient and fault-tolerant routing, object location, and load balancing within a self-organizing overlay network. One important aspect of these s...
متن کاملHierarchical Structured Peer-to-Peer Networks
Structured peer-to-peer systems or distributed hash tables (DHT) are self-organizing distributed systems designed to support efficient and scalable lookups with dynamic network topology changes. Nodes are organized as structured overlay networks, and data is mapped to nodes in the overlap network based on their identifier. There are two main types of structured peer-to-peer architectures: flat ...
متن کاملA P2P-Based Framework for Distributed Network Management
In this paper we present a novel framework supporting distributed network management using a self-organizing peer-to-peer overlay network. The overlay consists of several Distributed Network Agents which can perform distributed tests and distributed monitoring for fault and performance management. In that way, the concept is able to overcome disadvantages that come along with a central manageme...
متن کاملHierarchical architectures in structured peer-to-peer overlay networks
Distributed Hash Tables (DHT) are presently used in several large-scale systems in the Internet and envisaged as a key mechanism to provide identifier-locator separation for mobile hosts in Future Internet. Such P2P-based systems become increasingly complex serving popular social networking, resource sharing applications, and Internet-scale infrastructures. Hierarchy is a standard mechanism for...
متن کاملRange-capable Distributed Hash Tables
In this paper, we present a novel indexing data structure called RDHT (Range capable Distributed Hash Table) derived from skip lists and specifically designed for storing and retrieving geographic data from a structured P2P network overlay. We have developed RDHTs as backend for the DART search engine, whose goal is to efficiently answer complex queries based on semantics and geographical conte...
