چکیده
Free full text available from www.ijccm.org A b st ra ct Though there is no Class I evidence for the benefit of intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, the bulk of the published literature supports its use when indicated. This review deals with the pathophysiology of raised ICP, evidence for and against monitoring, and basic guidelines for monitoring. It is unfortunate that ICP monitoring is not routinely performed in most of the centres in India due to the popular perception of it being risky, technologically complex and expensive. This article is an attempt to provide all the essential information on this complex topic without going into excessive detail, in the hope that ICP monitoring will be more widely used in India.

A Colombian-based survey on ventriculostomy and intracranial pressure monitor placement practices
Objective: Monitoring of intracranial pressure (ICP) is a routine procedure in the neurosurgery field. Although the routine practice of monitoring ICP has decreased in recent years, the practice patterns have not been studied in Colombia. This study was designed to evaluate the current practice forventriculostomy and ICP monitoring by neurosurgeons in Colombia. Methods...

متن کاملNovel methods to predict increased intracranial pressure during intensive care and long-term neurologic outcome after traumatic brain injury: development and validation in a multicenter dataset.
OBJECTIVE Intracranial pressure monitoring is standard of care after severe traumatic brain injury. Episodes of increased intracranial pressure are secondary injuries associated with poor outcome. We developed a model to predict increased intracranial pressure episodes 30 mins in advance, by using the dynamic characteristics of continuous intracranial pressure and mean arterial pressure monitor...
متن کاملXiv ■ Neurologic Disease and Dysfunction Chapter 146 ■ Elevated Intracranial Pressure
Intracranial pressure (ICP) is the pressure of the compartment inside the skull. Since the brain is almost completely incompressible, expansion of the volume in any component within the skull causes an increase in the pressure of the cranial compartment. Increased intracranial pressure can lead to decreased blood flow, resulting in decreased oxygen delivery to the brain and neuronal dysfunction...
متن کاملSerial Brain CT Scans in Severe Head Injury without Intracranial Pressure Monitoring.
OBJECTIVE The intracranial pathologies after head trauma should be usually progressed. It is clearly visualized in the non-invasive brain CT. The invasive monitor such as intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring may be accompanied with the complications. This study aims whether the patients with severe head injury could be managed with serial CT scans. METHODS The medical records of 113 patient...
