چکیده

An association between acute transverse myelitis and psittacosis in a teenage boy is described. Closer collaboration between doctors and vets might have made the diagnosis sooner. A full paediatric history should include details of contact with pets and other animals.

Comparative Study of Meningopneumonitis Virus, Psittacosis of Pigeon Origin, and Psittacosis of Parrot Origin

Comparative morphological, histological, and biological studies suggest a close relationship between the meningopneumonitis virus of Francis and Magill and a virus recovered from thiamin-deficient pigeons. Both of these viruses are morphologically identical with typical psittacosis, and it seems probable that they are biologically modified strains of psittacosis. They both differ from typical p...

Wild-pigeon-related psittacosis in a family.

Three members of a family acquired psittacosis after exposure to a wild pigeon. Each of the patients had pulmonary infiltrates, prominent headache, abdominal complaints, and serologic evidence for infection with Chlamydia psittaci. Of 759 cases of psittacosis reported to the Centers for Disease Control for the period of 1974 to 1981, some 75 (10 percent) were associated with pigeons. Fifty-two ...

Comparative Study of Meningopneumonitis Virus, Psittacosis of Pigeon Origin, and Psittacosis of Parrot Origin by Henry Pinkerton, M.d., And

In a previous paper (1), the recovery of a virus morphologically identical with psittacosis from pigeons on a thiamin-deficient diet was reported. This virus, injected intracranially into mice behaved like typical psittacosis, producing fatal meningoencephalitis with typical elementary bodies. The virus differed from typical psittacosis, however, in that intraperitoneal injection in mice failed...

AN OUTBREAK OF PSITTACOSIS I N PIGEONS, INVOLVING T H E PRODUCTION OF INCLUSION BODIES, AND TRANSFER OF T H E DISEASE TO MAN Bx

Spontaneous infection with the virus of psittacosis is known to be widespread among birds of the psittacine family and also to occur in members of other orders of the class, Ayes (1). Coles (2) in 1940 described an epizootic of psittacosis among domestic pigeons (Columba livia vat. domestica) in South Africa and this disease was later encountered among pigeons in many parts of the United States...

Utility of complement fixation and microimmunofluorescence assays for detecting serologic responses in patients with clinically diagnosed psittacosis.

The serodiagnosis of human psittacosis was considerably improved by a microimmunofluorescence (MIF) assay that uses selected strains of Chlamydia psittaci, C. pneumoniae, and C. trachomatis as antigens. The 78 patients examined in the study were clinically diagnosed as having psittacosis on the basis of compatible clinical symptoms following exposure to sick birds. The conventional complement f...
