چکیده

Background There is evidence that paternal and maternal lung function influence children’s pulmonary function. To date, the most widely used pulmonary function test (PFT) to assess airway responsiveness is the PC20 (concentration of methacholine required to decrease FEV1 by 20%). However, other measures of parental lung function may be better predictors of airway responsiveness or asthma development in their children.

Role of Methacholine PC20 in FEF25-75% for the Diagnosis of Bronchial Asthma

Background: The methacholine bronchial provocation test is a useful tool for evaluating asthma in patients with normal or near normal baseline lung function. However, the sensitivity of this test is 82∼92% at most. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical usefulness of FEF25-75% in identification of airway hyperresponsiveness in patients with suspected asthmatic symptoms. Methods: ...

بررسی ارزش بالینی نسبت FEF25-75/FVC در مقایسه با تست متاکولین در شناسایی موارد افزایش پاسخ‌دهی برونش

Background: Because bronchial hyper responsiveness (BHR) has been shown to be a risk factor for asthma and lung function decline, interest has focused on diagnosing BHR. The aim of our study was to measure the association between airway caliber relative to lung size expressed as the ratio between forced expiratory flow, mid expiratory phase, divided by forced vital capacity (FEF25-75/FVC) and B...

بررسی شیوع گونه‌ی سرفه‌ای آسم (Cough Variant Asthma)در بیماران مبتلا به سرفه‌ی مزمن مراجعه کننده به بیمارستان ولیعصر (عج) زنجان در سال 1388

Background and Objective: Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases that in some cases it is manifested as chronic coughs without any other symptoms. Cough variant asthma (CVA) is an occult form of asthma of which, the only sign or symptom is chronic cough and therefore should always be considered in the differential diagnosis of chronic coughs. The aim of the present study was to detec...

Use of peak flow variability and methacholine responsiveness in predicting changes from pre-test diagnosis of asthma.

Asthma is usually diagnosed clinically. This study investigated how methacholine challenge and peak expiratory flow monitoring influenced change from a pretest clinical diagnosis. Records of 132 patients referred with respiratory symptoms, who subsequently had reliable measurements of both airway responsiveness (provocative concentration of methacholine causing a 20% fall in forced expiratory v...

Bronchial hyperresponsiveness in women with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease related to wood smoke

PURPOSE Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) related to wood smoke exposure is characterized by important inflammation of the central and peripheral airways without significant emphysema. The objective of this study is to describe the bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) level in women with COPD related to wood smoke exposure and to compare it with the BHR in women with COPD related to t...
