چکیده

The ability to obtain accurate measurement of ocular biometric dimensions, such as axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and crystalline lens thickness (LT), is essential in many clinical and research applications. For example, AL is used clinically for intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation prior to cataract and refractive surgery1 and to diagnose ocular conditions such as staphyloma2 to evaluate the risk of retinal detachment,3 as well as to measure the structural and dimensional components in myopia studies.4 In addition, accurate ACD assessment is important in phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) calculation formulae and in patient selection,5 diagnosis and management of eye conditions, such as acute or chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma,6 keratoconus and lenticonus.7 Furthermore, LT measurements have assumed importance in biometric studies of myopia and primary angle-closure glaucoma.8

The Biometric Values of Affected and Fellow Eyes in Patients with Acute Attack of Primary Angle Closure

Background: It has been estimated that 67 million people worldwide are affected with a primary glaucoma and that one-third have primary angle closure glaucoma. We aimed to determine the biometric differences between the eyes of patients with acute attack of primary angle closure and their non-involved fellow eyes. Methods: Twenty eight patients with acute attack of primary angle closure were re...

The distribution of axial length, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, and vitreous chamber depth in an adult population of Shahroud, Iran

BACKGROUND Ocular biometric parameters can be influenced by race, ethnicity, and genetics; their differences across different populations can probably explain differences in refractive errors in these populations. The aim of this study is to determine the normal range of axial length, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, and vitreous chamber depth in the population of Shahroud in the north o...

Ocular biometry and central corneal thickness in children: a hospital-based study.

PURPOSE To investigate the distribution of axial length, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, vitreous chamber depth, and central corneal thickness in children at different age groups. METHODS We studied 364 eyes in 182 children with ages between 1 and 12 years. Axial length, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, and vitreous chamber depth were measured by ultrasound biometry. Central co...

Biometric relationships of ocular components in esotropic amblyopia.

PURPOSE To investigate the contribution of the individual ocular components, i.e. anterior chamber depth, lens thickness and vitreous chamber depth, to total axial length in patients with esotropic amblyopia. METHODS The study population consisted of 74 children, aged between 5 and 8 years: thirty-seven patients with esotropic amblyopia and 37 healthy volunteers (control group). The participa...

Twenty-four-hour change in axial length in the rabbit eye.

PURPOSE To study the 24-hour changes in axial length, lens thickness, and anterior chamber depth in rabbits and to examine the role of ocular sympathetic activity on these changes. METHODS Young adult rabbits were entrained to a daily 12-hour light-12-hour dark cycle. Axial length, lens thickness, and anterior chamber depth were measured using ultrasonic techniques. In the first group of 12 r...
