چکیده

The biometric matching problem is a two class (“within” or “between”) classification problem where two types of errors (FRR and FAR) occur. While the receiver operating characteristic or ROC curve, which is a plot of FRR and FAR, can be easily obtained in the simple matching model, it is non-trivial to obtain in the multivariate matching model. Here the problem of obtaining ROC curves for several parametric and nonparametric matchers in a multidimensional case is considered. Graphical decision boundaries are also given for each matcher.

Can a "poor" verification system be a "good" identification system? A preliminary study

The matching accuracy of a biometric system is typically quantified through measures such as the False Match Rate (FMR), False Non-match Rate (FNMR), Equal Error Rate (EER), Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve and Cumulative Match Characteristic (CMC) curve. In this work, we analyze the relationship between the ROC and CMC curves, which are two measures commonly used to describe the p...

Semiparametric Inferential Procedures for Comparing Multivariate Roc Curves with Interaction Terms

Multivariate ROC curve models that include an interaction term between biomarker type and false positive rate are important in comparative biomarker studies, because such interaction allows ROC curves of different biomarkers to cross each other. However, there has been limited work in drawing inference for comparing multivariate ROC curves, especially when interaction terms are present. In this...

Nonparametric analysis of fingerprint data on large data sets

By executing different fingerprint-image matching algorithms on large data sets, it reveals that the match and non-match similarity scores have no specific underlying distribution function. Thus, it requires a nonparametric analysis for fingerprint-image matching algorithms on large data sets without any assumption about such irregularly discrete distribution functions. A precise receiver opera...

Hiding a Face in a Fingerprint Image

With the wide spread utilization of biometric identification systems, establishing the authenticity of biometric data itself has emerged as an important research issue. We present a fingerprint image watermarking method that can embed facial information into host fingerprint images. This scheme has the advantage that in addition to fingerprint matching, the recovered face during the decoding ca...

Semi-parametric Distributional Models for Biometric Fusion

The performance of biometric recognition systems can become limited in operating environments due to the presence of extraneous noise factors. Biometric fusion alleviates this problem by consolidating information from various biometric sources, thereby achieving a higher recognition rate. One challenge faced in fusion is how to optimally combine information originating from the different source...
