چکیده

The 21-GHz satellite broadcasting enables to transmit high-capacity information such as ultrahigh-definition TV, 3D-TV and so on. However, the 21.4 to 22.0-GHz band suffers from considerable rain attenuation. In order to compensate it, the studies about a rain fade mitigation techniques have been done. One of the techniques proposed by NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories is an adaptive satellite power control method in which the radiation power is increased locally in the area having heavy rainfall (“boosted” beam) while keeping the “nationwide” beam by using an onboard phased array antenna [1][2]. As the onboard power is limited, to design such satellite broadcasting system, it is necessary to estimate the total rain attenuation over Japan, the optimum size and number of the boosted beam using by the rain data. In this paper, a method to transform rainfall rate to rain attenuation in the 21-GHz band and a method of estimating the total rain attenuation over Japan are described.

Adaptation of Weibull Distribution on Channel Modeling for Satellite Communication Links above 10GHZ

Satellite Communication Networks in modern days has higher frequencies above 10GHZ.Frequencies more than 10GHZ causes rain attenuation. In this paper, a channel model is defined to synthesize rain attenuation of 10GHZ and above. Previously, for satellite communication networks, Maseng-Bakken(M-B)model is used which is a time series synthesizer proposed based on Stochastic Differential equations...

Ku-band Rain Attenuation Observations on an Earth-space Path in the Indian Region

Measurements of rain attenuation over an earth-space path at Kolkata (22°34' N, 88°29' E), India, have been carried out since June 2004 by receiving a Ku-band signal from the satellite NSS-6 (geostationary at 95 E). The instantaneous attenuations are estimated from the point rain rates measured with an optical raingauge and using the Simple Attenuation Model (SAM). The estimated values closely ...

Prediction of Rain Attenuation Series with Discretized Spectral Model

The rain attenuation plays a major role in the design of satellite-to-earth links operating at high frequencies such as Ka band and Ku band. The signal suffers from a strong attenuation during the propagation path as raindrops absorb and scatter radio waves, which results in an increase of transmission error and reduction of the system availability [1]. Predicting rain attenuation is one of the...
