Extraction of acEtic acid from WatEr Using isopropyl EthEr

چکیده
69 Unit operations are ubiquitous in any chemical process. One of their main purposes is to achieve separation in order to recycle unconverted reactants or reach product purity specifications. If two phases are brought into intimate contact, a few components migrate from one phase to the other in every stage of the unit. Then, the two phases are separated. When we consider equilibrium-staged separations, we assume that both phases leaving each stage are in equilibrium and one is richer in one or more components. The most common unit operation is distillation. It is used, for instance, to separate crude petroleum into its various fractions such as kerosene and gasoline. In the pharmaceutical industry, liquid-liquid extraction is often employed. For example, antibiotics in aqueous fermentation are recovered using organic solvents. Finally, absorption and stripping are often involved in gas treatment plants—such as units used to remove acid gases (CO2 and H2S) from natural gas. In the present paper, we solve two problems while showing how graphical methods can be used to design the unit operations. The first problem treats liquid-liquid extraction while the second problem deals with binary distillation.

Oxidation of ethyl ether on borate glass: chemiluminescence, mechanism, and development of a sensitive gas sensor.
A gas sensor was developed by using the chemiluminescence (CL) emission from the oxidation of ethyl ether by oxygen in the air on the surface of borate glass. Theoretical calculation, together with experimental investigation, revealed the main CL reactions: ethyl ether is first oxidized to acetaldehyde and then to acetic acid, during which main luminous intermediates such as CH 3CO (*) are gene...
متن کاملEnzymatic Synthesis of Isopropyl Acetate by Immobilized Bacillus cereus Lipase in Organic Medium
Selective production of fragrance fatty acid ester from isopropanol and acetic acid has been achieved using silica-immobilized lipase of Bacillus cereus MTCC 8372. A purified thermoalkalophilic extracellular lipase was immobilized by adsorption onto the silica. The effects of various parameters like molar ratio of substrates (isopropanol and acetic acid; 25 to 100 mM), concentration of biocatal...

Methylation is an important transformation process for elements in the environment. Herein, headspace solid phase micro-extraction (HP-SPME) coupled with gas chromatography–flame photometric detection (GC-FPD) or gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) techniques were employed to study the photochemical methylation of inorganic tin(II) by eight organic compounds (including acetone, pyruvic...
متن کاملThe Comparison of Acetic Acid and Strontium Chloride Procedures for Extraction of Hemin
Abstract Background and objectives: Hemin is a porphyrin compound derived from hemoglobin, the precursor of other porphyrin hemoglobin derivatives and the raw material of Hematin. Since hemin is widely used in medicine, we decided primarily to synthesize this substance in Laboratory and to determine the best way of hemin extraction from untransfused and expired blood units. Materials and Method...
متن کاملActivation of CTP : phosphocholine cytidylyltransferase in rat lung by fatty acids.
CTP : phosphocholine cytidylyltransferase activity exists in both the microsome and cytosol fractions of adult lung, 36 and 59%, respectively. Although these enzyme activities are stimulated in vitro by added lipid activators (i.e. phosphatidylglycerol), there are significant levels of activity in the absence of added lipid. We have removed endogenous lipid material from microsome and cytosol p...
