چکیده

Individual-level information systems adoption research has recently seen the introduction of expectation–disconfirmation theory (EDT) to explain how and why user reactions change over time. This prior research has produced valuable insights into the phenomenon of technology adoption beyond traditional models, such as the technology acceptance model. First, we identify gaps in EDT research that present potential opportunities for advances—specifically, we discuss methodological and analytical limitations in EDT research in information systems and present polynomial modeling and response surface methodology as solutions. Second, we draw from research on cognitive dissonance, realistic job preview, and prospect theory to present a polynomial model of expectation– Vivek Choudhury was the accepting senior editor for this paper. disconfirmation in information systems. Finally, we test our model using data gathered over a period of 6 months among 1,143 employees being introduced to a new technology. The results confirmed our hypotheses that disconfirmation in general was bad, as evidenced by low behavioral intention to continue using a system for both positive and negative disconfirmation, thus supporting the need for a polynomial model to understand expectation disconfirmation in information systems.

Expectation Confirmation in Technology Use

W propose a model to study expectation confirmation in information systems. The proposed model is based on the assimilation-contrast model and prospect theory, and suggests that both are needed to account for the magnitude and direction of the deviations between experiences and expectations. Using the technology acceptance model’s (TAM) primary construct—namely, perceived usefulness—expectation...

Extending the Expectation-Confirmation Model to Evaluate the Post-Adoption Behavior of IT continuers and discontinuers

The expectation-confirmation model (ECM) has often been applied to investigate the satisfaction with and continued use of information technology (IT) after its adoption. This theory, which is based in social psychology, has already proven to be useful in the evaluation of IT post-adoption behavior. However, this project identifies a few important omissions that, if modified, could improve the E...

Experimental Studies, Response Surface Methodology and Molecular Modeling for Optimization and Mechanism Analysis of Methylene Blue Dye Removal by Different Clays

In this work, three types of natural clays including kaolinite, montmorillonite, and illite with different molecular structures, as adsorbents, are selected for the removal of methylene blue dye, and their performance is investigated. Also the optimization and the analysis of the dye adsorption mechanism are performed using the response surface methodology, molecular modeling, and experimental ...

Chromium removal and water recycling from electroplating wastewater through direct osmosis: Modeling and optimization by response surface methodology

Background: Considering the carcinogenic effects of heavy metals, such as chromium, it is essential to remove these elements from water and wastewater. Direct osmosis is a new membrane technology, which can be a proper alternative to conventional chromium removal processes. Methods: The wastewater samples were collected from an electroplating unit, located in Alborz industrial city, Qazvin, Ir...

Explaining Satisfaction at Different Stages of Adoption in the Context of Internet-Based Services

In this research we develop, operationalize, and empirically test a model for explaining/predicting the satisfaction of customers with Internet-based services at different stages of adoption. We argue and empirically demonstrate the need to consider the evolutionary nature of satisfaction and the variability of its determinants. Our model identifies desire disconfirmation, expectation disconfir...
