چکیده
Spinning interstellar dust grains produce detectable rotational emission in the 10-100 GHz frequency range. We calculate the emission spectrum, and show that this emission can account for the " anomalous " Galactic background component which correlates with 100 µm thermal emission from dust. Implications for cosmic background studies are discussed.

متن کاملCross-Correlation of Tenerife Data with Galactic Templates-Evidence for Spinning Dust?
The recent discovery of dust-correlated diffuse microwave emission has prompted two rival explanations: free-free emission and spinning dust grains. We present new detections of this component at 10 and 15 GHz by the switched-beam Tenerife experiment. The data show a turnover in the spectrum and thereby support the spinning dust hypothesis. We also present a significant detection of synchrotron...
متن کاملIdentification of Spinning Dust in Hα–correlated Microwave Emission
CMB experiments commonly use maps of Hα intensity as a spatial template for Galactic free–free emission, assuming a power law Iν ∝ ν −0.15 for the spectrum. Any departure from the assumed free–free spectrum could have a detrimental effect on determination of the primary CMB anisotropy. We show that the Hα-correlated emission spectrum in the diffuse WIM is not the expected free–free spectrum at ...
متن کاملProbing the origin of the microwave anomalous emission
Context. The galactic anomalous microwave emission detected between 10 and 90 GHz is a major foreground to CMB fluctuations. Well correlated to dust emission at 100 µm, the anomalous emission is interstellar but its origin is still debated. Some possible explanations relate it to dust: emission of spinning, small (nanometric) grains carrying a permanent electric dipole or magnetic fluctuations ...

Context. The Galactic anomalous microwave emission detected between 10 and 90 GHz is a major foreground to CMB fluctuations. Well correlated with dust emission at 100 µm, the anomalous foreground is interstellar but its origin is still debated. Possible carriers for this emission are spinning, small dust grains carrying a permanent electric dipole. Aims. To probe the origin of the anomalous for...
