A systematic analysis of X-ray afterglows of gamma-ray burst observed by XMM-Newton

چکیده
This work is part of a systematic re-analysis program of all the data of GammaRay Burst (GRB) X-ray afterglows observed so far, in order to constrain the GRB models. We present here a systematic analysis of those afterglows observed by XMMNewton between January 2000 and March 2004. This dataset includes GRB 011211 and GRB 030329. We have obtained spectra, light curves and colors for these afterglows. In this paper we focus on the continuum spectral and temporal behavior. We compare these values with the theoretical ones expected from the fireball model. We derive constraints about the burst environment (absorption, density profile) and put constraints on their beaming angle.

X-ray continuum properties of GRB afterglows observed by XMM-Newton and Chandra
We present a catalog of XMM-Newton and Chandra observations of gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows, reduced in a common way using the most up-to-date calibration files and software. We focus on the continuum properties of the afterglows. We derive the spectral and temporal decay indices for 16 bursts. We place constraints on the burst environment and geometry. A comparison of the fast XMM-Newton f...
متن کاملEvidence for intrinsic absorption in the Swift X–ray afterglows
Gamma-ray burst (GRB) progenitors are observationally linked to the death of massive stars. X–ray studies of the GRB afterglows can deepen our knowledge of the ionization status and metal abundances of the matter in the GRB environment. Moreover, the presence of local matter can be inferred through its fingerprints in the X–ray spectrum, i.e. the presence of absorption higher than the Galactic ...
متن کاملProbing the Warm Inter-galactic Medium through Absorption against Gamma Ray Bursts X-ray Afterglows
Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) afterglows close to their peak intensity are among the brightest X-ray sources in the sky. Despite their fast power-law like decay, when fluxes are integrated from minutes up to hours after the GRB event, the corresponding number counts (logN-logF relation) far exceeds that of any other high redshift (z> 0.5) source, the flux of which is integrated over the same time inter...

Analysis of observations with XMM-Newton have made a significant contribution to the study of Gamma-ray Burst (GRB) X-ray afterglows. The effective area, band-pass and resolution of the EPIC instrument permit the study of a wide variety of spectral features. In particular, strong, time-dependent, soft X-ray emission lines have been discovered in some bursts. The emission mechanism and energy so...
متن کاملSoft X - ray emission lines in the afterglow spectrum of GRB 011211 : - a detailed XMM - Newton analysis
We report on an XMM-Newton observation of the X-ray afterglow of the Gamma Ray Burst GRB 011211, originally detected by Beppo-SAX on 11th December 2001. The early afterglow spectrum obtained by XMM-Newton, observed 11 hours after the initial burst, appeared to reveal decaying H-like Kα emission lines of Mg, Si, S, Ar and Ca, arising in enriched material with an outflow velocity of order 0.1c (R...
