Preventive measures for leptospirosis: rodent control.
نویسنده
چکیده
The Fifth Annual National Conference of the Indian Leptospirosis Society was held at Surat from January 20 to 22, 2005 to disseminate the information regarding capacity building to control this disease and policies were decided regarding the activities of the concerned departments. A grant of Rs. 65 lakhs from CRF was allotted to the Government Medical College, Surat to strengthen the Microbiology department and laboratory. Adequate stock of medicines is maintained in Surat, Valsad and Navsari districts. Constant interactions are maintained with NICD, who have suggested that intravenous penicillin may be administered instead of the capsule doxycycline. Changing patterns of climatic conditions, the infecting serovars, alterations in the signs and symptoms of the disease, environment management especially with reference to rodent control will necessitate periodical reviewing and modifications of policies undertaken for the effective control of this disease. Leptospirosis: Epidemiology and Preventive Measures
Leptospirosis is probably the world’s most widespread zoonosis of global importance. It occurs in both developed and developing countries and large outbreaks have been reported from all over the world. Leptospirosis is now being recognized as a re-emerging infectious disease. Understanding the epidemiology of this infectious disease is a critical step for designing interventions and consequentl...
متن کاملRodent Abundance Dynamics and Leptospirosis Carriage in an Area of Hyper-Endemicity in New Caledonia
BACKGROUND Widespread but particularly incident in the tropics, leptospirosis is transmitted to humans directly or indirectly by virtually any Mammal species. However, rodents are recognized as the most important reservoir. In endemic regions, seasonal outbreaks are observed during hot rainy periods. In such regions, hot spots can be evidenced, where leptospirosis is "hyper-endemic", its incide...
متن کاملPredominance of the ST143 and ST50 Leptospira clones in the urban rat populations of Peninsular Malaysia.
Leptospirosis is a zoonotic and an emerging infectious disease caused by the pathogenic Leptospira species (Levett, 2001). Leptospirosis is transmitted directly or indirectly through urine of infected animals or environments contaminated with urine of reservoir animals (Bharti et al., 2003; Ullmann & Langoi, 2011). Serovar identification of Leptospira isolates constitutes an important component...
متن کاملLeptospirosis: a re-emerging infection.
Leptospirosis is a re-emerging zoonotic infection. In developing countries large outbreaks have occurred in urban slums and following floods. Individuals from developed nations are also now more frequently exposed to the infection as a result of international travel and greater participation in certain outdoor recreational activities. Leptospirosis remains a diagnostic challenge since it often ...
متن کاملInfluence of Household Rat Infestation on Leptospira Transmission in the Urban Slum Environment
BACKGROUND The Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus) is the principal reservoir for leptospirosis in many urban settings. Few studies have identified markers for rat infestation in slum environments while none have evaluated the association between household rat infestation and Leptospira infection in humans or the use of infestation markers as a predictive model to stratify risk for leptospirosis. ...
