Assessment of proposed electromagnetic quantum vacuum energy extraction methods

چکیده
In research articles and patents several methods have been proposed for the extraction of zero-point energy from the vacuum. None has been reliably demonstrated, but the proposals remain largely unchallenged. In this paper the feasibility of these methods is assessed in terms of underlying thermodynamics principles of equilibrium, detailed balance, and conservation laws. The methods are separated into three classes: nonlinear processing of the zero-point field, mechanical extraction using Casimir cavities, and the pumping of atoms through Casimir cavities. The first two approaches are shown to violate thermodynamics principles, and therefore appear not to be feasible, no matter how innovative their execution. The third approach does not appear to violate these principles. PACS codes: 84.60._h 05.90._m 42.50.Lc 85.30.Kk

متن کاملQuantum Measurement Information as a key to Energy Extraction from Local Vacuums
In this paper, a protocol is proposed in which energy extraction from local vacuum states is possible by using quantum measurement information for the vacuum state of quantum fields. In the protocol, Alice, who stays at a spatial point, excites the ground state of the fields by a local measurement. Consequently, wavepackects generated by A' measurement propagate the vacuum to spatial infinity. ...
متن کاملZero-Point Field, QED Coherence, Living Systems and Biophotons Emission
Living organisms are high ordered and organized systems accumulating and successively using low entropy energy to support all the processes needed for life. This low level of entropy is a required condition in order to make possible the use of endogenous energy for producing, for example, mechanical work. The commonly accepted picture of condensed matter physics, exclusively considering the per...
متن کاملCasimir effect in external magnetic field
We compute the influence of an external magnetic field on the Casimir energy of a massive charged scalar field confined between two parallel infinite plates. For this case the obtained result shows that the magnetic field inhibits the Casimir effect. The Casimir effect can be generally defined as the effect of a non-trivial space topology on the vacuum fluctuations of relativistic quantum field...
متن کاملVacuum Polarization Effects from Fermion Zero-Point Energy
The influence of an external electromagnetic field on the vacuum structure of a quantized Dirac field is investigated by considering the quantum corrections to classical Maxwell’s Lagrangian density induced by fluctuations of the non-perturbative vacuum. Effective Lagrangian densities for Maxwell’s theory in (3+1) and (2+1) dimensions are derived from the vacuum zero-point energy of the fermion...
