Polarized hyper-Rayleigh light scattering measurements of nonlinear optical chromophores
نویسندگان
چکیده
Hyper-Rayleigh light scattering measurements at incident wavelengths of 1064 and 1319 nm are reported for several organic nonlinear optical chromophores in solution with approximately 5%– 10% uncertainty in the relative first hyperpolarizabilities. The measured chromophores include representatives from C1 , Cs , C2V, and D3 molecular point groups and include both neutral and ionic compounds. The measurements were made with 2–5 cm spectral resolution and include polarization analysis of the incident and scattered light. Polarization ratios were measured with 2%–3% uncertainty for each molecule, and relative magnitudes of the hyperpolarizability components were deduced. Two-photon induced fluorescence from several chromophores was observed to overlap with the scattered second harmonic light spectrum. The use of a scanning monochromator, however, generally allows the separation of these two sources of photons. The measured first hyperpolarizabilities are consistent with previous electric field induced second harmonic generation measurements of the same compounds, provided that the standard reference value for the nonlinear susceptibility of quartz is taken to be d1150.3060.02 pm/V at 1064 nm. © 1996 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-9606~96!52234-8#

Prospects for Chiral Nonlinear Optical Media
This paper describes the development and optimization of chiral, nonpolar media with large second-order nonlinear optical responses. We employ molecular engineering, quantum-mechanical sum-over-states theory, and measurements of molecular hyperpolarizability by means of Kleinman-disallowed hyper-Rayleigh scattering in order to understand molecular properties. Then we analyze the appropriate arr...

An apparatus is described for the measurement of second-order nonlinear optical properties via hyper-Rayleigh scattering with 1 cm spectral resolution of the scattered light. The setup allows a complete investigation of the polarization dependence of the second-harmonic scattered light. The combination of good spectral resolution, polarization analysis, and high sensitivity allows the determina...

Apparatus and methods are described for measurement of the polarization dependence of hyper-Rayleigh scattering near 90° scattering angle with 0.1% accuracy for all four configurations where the incident and scattered light is linear polarized either parallel or perpendicular to the scattering plane. Measurements are made with large collection aperture and extrapolated to zero collection numeri...
متن کاملSpontaneous, stimulated, coherent and incoherent nonlinear wave mixing and Hyper-Rayleigh scattering; a unified quantum-field description
By combining a quantum treatment of the radiation field with a superoperator formalism we present compact expressions for a broad variety of coherent and incoherent nonlinear optical signals. Spontaneous signals are classified according to the molecular coherence range: homodyne detected signals result from long range two particle coherence whereas Rayleigh and hyper-Rayleigh scattering are sho...
متن کاملSystematic study of the structure-property relationship of a series of ferrocenyl nonlinear optical chromophores.
A series of novel nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores 1-4 incorporating the ferrocenyl (Fc) group as an electron donor and 2-dicyanomethylene-3-cyano-4-methyl-2,5-dihydrofuran (TCF) derivatives as electron acceptors are presented. The use of a constant Fc donor and varied acceptors and bridges makes it possible to systematically determine the contribution of the conjugated bridge and the accep...
