Improving the aerobic stability of silages

چکیده
Improving the aerobic stability of silages M ICRO-ORGANISMS involved in the ensiling process include beneficial bacteria (homolactic acid bacteria), detrimental bacteria (for example, clostridia) and unwanted yeasts and moulds. In a good silage pit (or bun), air is eliminated by respiration from the plant and packing, thus preventing the growth of detrimental aerobic microbes. When air is eliminated from the silo, production of acid begins and a low pH eventually curtails the growth of all bacteria. A limited amount of heating during the early days of ensiling is good because it is an indication that bacteria are starting to ferment the silage. However, heating for prolonged periods of time is an indication that there was too much air in the silage mass. Excessive heat can result in heat-damaged proteins, low energy values, and low dry matter recoveries. Preventing silage from spoiling can improve the efficiency of a feedlot by preserving forage as high quality silage that is palatable to cattle.

Effect of lactic acid bacteria inoculants, formic acid, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate on fermentation quality and aerobic stability of wilted grass silage
The efficiency of a novel strain of lactic acid bacteria inoculant (Lactobacillus plantarum VTT E-78076, E76) on the fermentation quality of wilted silage was studied. Furthermore, the possibility to improve aerobic stability of silages by combining an inoculant and chemical preservatives was investigated. Two experiments were conducted with wilted timothy-meadow fescue herbage (dry matter 429 ...

This study investigated the dynamics associated with prolonged ensiling and aerobic deterioration of whole crop corn (WCC) silages and total mixed ration (TMR) silages containing WCC (C-TMR silages) to clarify the differences that account for the enhanced aerobic stability of TMR silages. Laboratory-scale barrel silos were randomly opened after 7, 14, 28, and 56 d of ensiling and were subjected...
