چکیده

A dynamic simulation of threaded insertion is developed based on Euler's equations, impulsive forces, and a geometric description for threaded parts. Points of contact between the threaded parts are determined and tracked during the simulation. Reaction forces are computed based on the contact locations and the velocity constraints given by the kinematic description. The simulation will be used to investigate the behavior of the bolt during insertion into the nut under grasp stiiness and damper control.

Compliant Control of Threaded Fastener Insertion

Controlled compliance and accommodation matrix techniques are considered for robust insertion of threaded fasteners. Errors in translational positioning are shown to be easily corrected. Errors in the angle of tilt between the threaded parts are shown to be much more diicult to correct and constrain the region of convergence for simple linear techniques.

Forces associated with pneumatic power screwdriver operation: statics and dynamics.

The statics and dynamics of pneumatic power screwdriver operation were investigated in the context of predicting forces acting against the human operator. A static force model is described in the paper, based on tool geometry, mass, orientation in space, feed force, torque build up, and stall torque. Three common power hand tool shapes are considered, including pistol grip, right angle, and in-...

A Dynamic Mechanical Model for Hand Force in Right Angle Nutrunner Operation

A deterministic mechanical model based on physical tool parameters was used for estimating static and dynamic hand forces from kinematic measurements. We investigated the effects of target torque (25, 40, and 55 Nm) and threaded fastener joint hardness (35-, 150-, 300-, 500-, and 900-ms torque buildup time) on hand force. Estimated hand force was affected by target torque and joint hardness. Pe...

A Two Parameter Fracture Mechanics Approach to Analyze Threaded Fasteners of A High Strength Steel

This paper presents a numerical investigation using the two-parameter fracture mechanics approach for studying threaded fastener geometries. It was found that the constraint arising from the presence of a surface crack in a threaded fastener does influence the stress in the forward sector. Consequently, the actual stress field shows a deviation from the theoretical HRR solution. Implementation ...

Fatigue of Threaded Fasteners

ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES • AUGUST 2014 18 F asteners play a critical role in engineered structures as a method of nonpermanent joining for the aerospace, infrastructure, civil, automotive, energy generation/distribution, and many other industries. Fastener failures can lead to disastrous consequences and substantial financial losses. One of the most common fastener failure modes is fatigu...
