چکیده

Purpose: In radiotherapy, the proper way to ensure that the dose delivered to a patient is correct and strongly agree with that simulated by his treatment plan currently requires a pre-treatment dosimetric verification. Although this procedure can be realised by using a combined detectorphantom system to monitor the patient plan dose delivered on a phantom, the quality of the entire treatment can not be completely certified since the dose is not directly monitored during each daily treatment. The availability of a system that could monitor the dose in real time during the patient treatment would strongly increase the patient radiotherapy safety. The Dosimetry Check software (Math Resolution, LLC, Maryland) is one of these medical device which is capable of evaluating either pre-treatment or in-vivo patient plan dosimetry by using the on-board imaging detectors of the treatment unit. The purpose of the study is to assess the proper functioning of the DC software, coupled to the mega-voltage (MV) detectors of an helical Tomotherapy (HT) unit, to verify different patient plans in either pre-treatment and in-vivo modality.

Low-Dose-Area-Constrained Helical TomoTherapy-Based Whole Breast Radiotherapy and Dosimetric Comparison with Tangential Field-in-Field IMRT

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE To present a novel helical TomoTherapy-based method for whole breast radiotherapy that has better dosimetry and also has acceptable low-dose regions for lungs, heart, and contralateral breast compared with tangential field-in-field IMRT (FIF-IMRT). MATERIAL AND METHODS Ten patients with left-side breast cancer were planned with low-dose-area-constrained helical TomoTher...

Achievable accuracy in brain tumors by in vivo dosimetry with diode detectors

ABSTRACT Background: In vivo measurements of applied dose during radiotherapy treatment, is important to ensure accurate dose delivery to patients. Uncertainty in dose delivery should fall within ±5% of the prescribed dose as recommended by ICRU. Assessment of dose for radiotherapy applications performed with various types of detectors. In this study, semiconductor diodes were used which have s...

Prostate Helical Tomotherapy: A semi-empirical estimation of the scaling factor based on 2D approximating field

Background: In Helical Tomotherapy (HT), the scaling factor (SF) is the time in seconds that each leaf viewing a target would need to be open to deliver the prescribed dose. The SF is patient-specific and is used to calculate the rotational period of the gantry, and the total treatment time (TTT) of the HT. The SF is generally difficult to estimate. Currently, it takes about one hour t...

Verification of the Accuracy of the Delivered Dose in Brain Tumors by in Vivo Dosimetry Using Diode Detectors

Introduction: During radiotherapy, high accuracy in the dose delivery is required because there is a strong  relationship between the absorbed dose, local tumor control and particularly the normal tissue damage. In  many institutions, in vivo dosimetry using diodes is performed to check the actual dose delivered. In general,  the uncertainty in the dose delivered should fall within  ± 5% of the...

A comparison of the dosimetric effects of intrafraction motion on step‐and‐shoot, compensator, and helical tomotherapy‐based IMRT

Intrafraction motion during intensity-modulated radiation therapy can cause differences between the planned and delivered patient dose. The magnitude of these differences is dependent on a number of variables, including the treatment modality. This study was designed to compare the relative susceptibility of plans generated with three different treatment modalities to intrafraction motion. The ...
