چکیده

Field efficacy studies using three anticoagulant rodenticides were conducted on House mice, Mus musculus under a variety of conditions in 35 apartmental buildings scattered over four boroughs of New York metropolitan area. Percent control successes and relative efficacies of various rodenticides and their formulations were determined by recording pre and post control census for about four years. After four monthly treatments, the control success rate of bromadialone (0.005%, meal form) was highest (94.5%) followed by brodifacoum (0.005%, pellet form, 91.23%) and diphacinone (77.72%) in the wax cake formulation. However, build up of the residual mice population was faster in the case of bromadialone treatment when compared to brodifacoum (P<.01). Results of intermittent control operation, bi-monthly and biweekly, are compared and discussed with respect to mice population dynamics and properties of the rodenticides. Polymorphism in vkorc1 Gene of Natal Multimammate Mice, Mastomys natalensis, in Tanzania.

Resistance of rodents to anticoagulant rodenticides has emerged in several areas across the world. Single nucleotide mutations in the vkorc1 gene have been shown to elicit various levels of anticoagulant resistance, and these mutations are prevalent in several Rattus and Mus musculus populations. In sub-Saharan Africa, the Natal multimammate mouse, Mastomys natalensis, is one of the most damagi...

Laboratory and Field Evaluation of Difethialone, a New Anticoagulant Rodenticide

The efficacy of the newly developed anticoagulant rodenticide, difethialone was evaluated against various rodent species in laboratory and fields. Difethialone at 0.025% concentration in the form of loose bait (broken wheat and rice + veg. oil + garlic powder) gave absolute mortality in Rattus rattus, Mus musculus, Funambulus pennanti, and Meriones hurrianae during ‘no-choice’ tests in one day ...

The Status of Bromadiolone in the United States

The anticoagulant rodenticide bromadiolone is used throughout the U.S. under a number of trade names. An expanded research program is underway within Chempar to examine the use of bromadiolone in commensal and field rodent control. Data are presented herein on the toxicology, metabolism, secondary hazards, efficacy, and formulation developments with bromadiolone. A new Maki 0.001% liquid bait i...

Distribution and frequency of VKORC1 sequence variants conferring resistance to anticoagulants in Mus musculus.

BACKGROUND Emerging resistance to anticoagulant rodenticides may significantly impair house mouse (Mus musculus L.) control. As in humans and rats, sequence variants in the gene vitamin K epoxide reductase complex subunit 1 (VKORC1) of house mice are strongly implicated in the responses of mice to anticoagulants. This study gives a first overview of the distribution and frequency of such potent...

Poisonings associated with illegal use of aldicarb as a rodenticide -- New York City, 1994-1997.

Although rodenticides historically have been among the most toxic substances available to the public and have been implicated as agents in both unintentional and suicidal exposures, the anticoagulant agents currently in use, such as coumadin and their long-acting derivatives (e.g., brodifacoum), are relatively safe. In 1995, most persons who reported exposure to anticoagulant rodenticides did n...
