چکیده

Ultrasonic (UT) is currently the most accurate and reliable In-Line Inspection (ILI) technology available in the market. These UT ILI Tools will record data while travelling through the pipeline from Launcher to Receiver. In most cases, the Pipeline Operator does not need to make major adjustments to their pipeline's normal operating conditions when conducting the inspection survey. Piezo-electric transducers are arranged to cover 100% of the pipe wall and it will directly measure the defects (metal loss and cracks). The data recorded by the tools are analyzed by in-house specialists before a final report is produced in both digital and hardcopy. A special viewing software is also provided to allow visualization of the inspection data. Using UT as the inspection method greatly increases the confident level of the inspection survey results. This in turn will give Pipeline Operators a greater peace of mind that their true pipeline condition is known thereby reducing unnecessary and costly digs and repairs.

A Novel Method for Ultrasonic Evaluation of Horizontal Defects Using Time-of-Flight Diffraction

Time-of-flight diffraction method (ToFD) is an amplitude-independent sizing method which is based on the measurement of time-of-flight of defect tip diffracted waves. Although ToFD can measure through-wall length of defect accurately, this method is not capable of measuring horizontal defect size. In this paper, a new ToFD method for evaluating horizontal planar defects is presented. The finite...

Literature Review: Theory and Application of In-Line Inspection Technologies for Oil and Gas Pipeline Girth Weld Defection

Girth weld cracking is one of the main failure modes in oil and gas pipelines; girth weld cracking inspection has great economic and social significance for the intrinsic safety of pipelines. This paper introduces the typical girth weld defects of oil and gas pipelines and the common nondestructive testing methods, and systematically generalizes the progress in the studies on technical principl...

Resonance Ultrasonic Spectroscopy of a Nanofibrous Composite and Studying the Effect of Surface/Interface

Resonances are intrinsic characteristics of an elastic object, which are completely independent of the source of excitation. The appropriate utilization of the information contained within the resonance spectra and the identification of the resonance frequencies of the object can be used as a potent tool for material characterization. In this paper, a new mathematical model for the wave diffrac...

Analysis of the Corroded Pipeline Segments Using In-line Inspection Data

Technical diagnostics of buried gas and oil pipelines is accomplished using magnetic and ultrasonic pigs. At present these methods allow to reveal corroded defects and define their sizes. Simplified techniques that are widely used all over the world for evaluation of the remaining strength of corroded pipeline segments are conservative and hamper development of the modern in-line inspection too...

Application of Ultrasonic Simulation Technology in Technical Justification of in-Service Inspection of Nuclear Power Plant

Ultrasonic modelling and simulation are widely used in inspection qualification by industrial non-destructive test. Due to limitation of inspection conditions and radiation environment inside the nuclear power plant, it is useful to study the application of ultrasonic simulation technology to in-service inspection in nuclear power plant. Simulation can be used to demonstrate the inspection capa...
