Xmm-newton Observations of the Vela Pulsar

چکیده
We present spectral analysis from XMM-Newton observations of the Vela pulsar. We analyzed thermal emission from the pulsar dominating below ∼ 1 keV since extracted spectra are heavily contaminated by nebular emission at higher energy. Featureless high-resolution spectra of the Reflection Grating Spectrometer aboard XMM-Newton suggest the presence of a hydrogen atmosphere, as previously indicated by Chandra results. Both the temperature and radius are consistent with those values deduced from Chandra. The derived Chandra and XMM-Newton temperature of T ≃ (6.4–7.1) × 10 K at its age of ∼ 10 years is below the standard cooling curve.

Xmm-newton Observations of Psr B1823–13: an Asymmetric Synchrotron Nebula around a Vela-like Pulsar
We present a deep observation with the X-ray Multi-Mirror Mission of PSR B1823–13, a young pulsar with similar properties to the Vela pulsar. We detect two components to the X-ray emission associated with PSR B1823–13: an elongated core of extent 30 immediately surrounding the pulsar, embedded in a fainter, diffuse component of emission 5 in extent, seen only on the southern side of the pulsar....
متن کاملTwo Pulsar Wind Nebulae: Chandra/xmm-newton Imaging of Gev J1417−6100
We report on Chandra ACIS and XMM-Newton MOS/PN imaging observations of two pulsar wind nebulae (K3/PSR J1420−6048 and G313.3+0.1=‘the rabbit’) associated with the Galactic unidentified γ-ray source GeV J1417−6100. With the excellent ACIS imaging the very energetic pulsar PSR J1420−6048 is separated from its surrounding nebula. This nebula has surprisingly little compact structure, although a f...
متن کاملChandra and Xmm-newton Observations of the Exceptional Pulsar Psr B0628-28
PSR B0628-28 is a radio pulsar which was first detected in the X-ray band by ROSAT and then later observed with Chandra and XMM-Newton. The Chandra observation yielded an X-ray luminosity two orders of magnitude higher than what is expected for spin-powered pulsars, also there were no pulsations detected. The XMM-Newton observation, however, reveals pulsations at the expected radio period, P = ...
متن کاملXMM - Newton spectral and timing observations of the millisecond pulsar PSR J 0218 + 4232
We present XMM-Newton MOS imaging and PN timing data of the millisecond pulsar PSR J0218+4232. We confirm the previously detected pulsations of PSR J0218+4232 and we show that the folded lightcurve is dependent on energy. We present the broad band (0.2-10.0 keV) spectrum of this millisecond pulsar, as well as the spectra of: the pulsed emission, the individual pulses, the interpulse and the non...
متن کاملProbing the Nature of the Vela X Cocoon
Vela X is a pulsar wind nebula (PWN) associated with the active pulsar B0833-45 and contained within the Vela supernova remnant (SNR). A collimated X-ray filament (“cocoon”) extends south-southwest from the pulsar to the center of Vela X. VLA observations uncovered radio emission coincident with the eastern edge of the cocoon and H.E.S.S. has detected TeV γ-ray emission from this region as well...
