چکیده

A new approach for the fabrication of flexible pressure sensors based on aligned carbon nanotubes (A-CNTs) is described in this paper. The technology is suitable for blood pressure sensors that can be attached to a stent-graft and deployed during an endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) procedure. Given the specifications of EVAR, the device should be foldable (extremely flexible) and characterized by a (very small) profile that integrates with the stent-graft cross section. A-CNTs embedded in a flexible substrate of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), a transparent, nontoxic and biocompatible silicone elastomer, are used to fabricate elements of the capacitive sensors. Fabricated prototypes validate our approach and show that CNTs/PDMS layered composites can be used to create highly flexible pressure sensors. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Design and Modeling of a New Type of Tactile Sensor Based on the Deformation of an Elastic Membrane

This paper presents the design and modeling of a flexible tactile sensor, capable of detecting the 2D surface texture image, contact-force estimation and stiffness of the sensed object. The sensor is made of polymer materials. It consists of a cylindrical chamber for pneumatic actuation and a membrane with a mesa structure. The inner radius of the cylindrical chamber is 2cm and its outer radius...

Flexible Pressure Sensors: Modeling and Experimental Characterization

Flexible capacitive pressure sensors fabricated with nanocomposites were experimentally characterized and results compared with simulations from analytical modeling. Unlike traditional diaphragm silicon pressure sensors, the flexible nanocomposite sensors present a linear response over a large pressure range due to the changes in the volume of the dielectric that cause the pressure inside the d...

Nanocomposite based flexible ultrasensitive resistive gas sensor for chemical reactions studies

Room temperature operation, low detection limit and fast response time are highly desirable for a wide range of gas sensing applications. However, the available gas sensors suffer mainly from high temperature operation or external stimulation for response/recovery. Here, we report an ultrasensitive-flexible-silver-nanoparticle based nanocomposite resistive sensor for ammonia detection and estab...

Surface-modified piezoresistive nanocomposite flexible pressure sensors with high sensitivity and wide linearity.

Flexible pressure sensors working in a low pressure range (<10 kPa) have become an important part of recent research due to their applications in "artificial skin", foldable electronics and so on. Several efforts have been focused on the high sensitivity of devices with the neglect of linearity which is essential for real applications. Here, we present a device with a new Gaussian random distri...

Innovative Optical Nanocomposite Sensor for Security Systems Innovative Optical Nanocomposite Sensor for Security Systems

In this work, we propose a new concept of optical tactile pressure sensing applied to flexible gold/PDMS nanocomposite material. We develop an optical tapered fiber force sensor based on electromagnetic (EM) coupling effect. The light coming from a tapered multimode Si fiber is coupled to a PDMS-Au polymer film. The formed gold nanoparticles increase the effective refractive index of the PDMS a...
