Modeling the Length of Wrist Ligaments
نویسنده
چکیده
We hypothesize that there is a correlation between wrist ligament length disorders and wrist mobility disorders. In order to test that, we intend to add ligament length information to the existing wrist bone model developed at Brown. We will model the length of distal and scapholunate ligaments for a set of 18 wrists (9 of them with mobility problems), evaluate these lengths as functions of specific wrist movements, and compare the results. We will study the influence of variation of ligament insertion point location on ligament length. We expect that our results will lead to a better understanding of wrist mechanics, and possibly help diagnosing and solving wrist mobility disorders. Strains and forces in selected carpal ligaments during in vitro flexion and deviation movements of the hand.
The forces induced in tiny wrist joint ligaments must be estimated in order to understand their role in the mechanism of the joint. We estimated forces in a number of selected ligaments in seven human wrist joint specimens, using a noninvasive method. The method is based on the rationale that the force generated in a ligament depends on its change of length with the joint under load. In vitro l...
متن کاملWrist-joint ligament length changes in flexion and deviation of the hand: an experimental study.
A method to study ligament-length patterns in situ with roentgen-stereophotogrammetry, using strings of glued tantalum markers, was developed. The method was tested against a bone-to-bone marking method in five carpal ligaments in three specimens, whereby the hand was moved through dorsopalmar flexion and radioulnar deviation. The "glued-string" marking method was found to be superior to the bo...
متن کاملStiffness of the ligaments of the human wrist joint.
In the present study the stiffness of the superficial ligaments of 14 human cadaver wrist joints have been determined. In these experiments the tested, fresh-frozen carpal joints are divided into a number of bone-ligament-bone complexes, which are loaded in a tensile testing machine at a rate of 66% of the ligaments' initial length per second to a maximal strain of 15%. From the force-elongatio...

Hand and wrist radiographic indexes such as radial inclination, ulnar variance, carpal height ratio, and radial tilt play an important role in the diagnosis and management of medical disorders, so they should be modified regarding the population and race difference. This study aims to compare the normal radiologic wrist indexes in Mashhad population with other existing databases and define some...
متن کاملDynamic high-resolution ultrasound of intrinsic and extrinsic ligaments of the wrist: How to make it simple.
Wrist ligaments are crucial structures for the maintenance of carpal stability. They are classified into extrinsic ligaments, connecting the carpus with the forearm bones or distal radioulnar ligaments, and intrinsic ligaments, entirely situated within the carpus. Lesions of intrinsic and extrinsic ligaments of the wrist have been demonstrated to occur largely, mostly in patients with history o...
