Balance Laws for Higher Order Fluxes in Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics

چکیده
The connection between the balance structure of the evolution equations of higher order fluxes and different forms of the entropy current is investigated on the example of rigid heat conductors. It is argued that Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics with dynamic degrees of freedom gives a proper general frame of these investigations. Thermodynamic closure relations are derived.

The Effects of Nonlocality on the Evolution of Higher Order Fluxes in Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics
The role of gradient dependent constitutive spaces is investigated on the example of Extended Thermodynamics of rigid heat conductors. Different levels of nonlocality are developed. The local form of the entropy density plays a crucial role in the investigations. The entropy inequality is solved under suitable additional assumptions. Balance form of evolution equations is obtained in special ca...
متن کاملThermodynamic constraints for biochemical networks.
The constraint-based approach to analysis of biochemical systems has emerged as a useful tool for rational metabolic engineering. Flux balance analysis (FBA) is based on the constraint of mass conservation; energy balance analysis (EBA) is based on non-equilibrium thermodynamics. The power of these approaches lies in the fact that the constraints are based on physical laws, and do not make use ...

متن کاملExtended Thermodynamics for Dense Gases up to Whatever Order and with Only Some Symmetries
Extended Thermodynamics of dense gases is characterized by two hierarchies of field equations, which allow one to overcome some restrictions on the generality of the previous models. This idea has been introduced by Arima, Taniguchi, Ruggeri and Sugiyama. In the case of a 14-moment model, they have found the closure of the balance equations up to second order with respect to equilibrium. Here, ...
متن کاملHigh-Order Wave Propagation Algorithms for General Hyperbolic Systems
We present a finite volume method that is applicable to general hyperbolic PDEs, including non-conservative and spatially varying systems. The method can be extended to arbitrarily high order of accuracy and allows a well-balanced implementation for capturing solutions of balance laws near steady state. This well-balancing is achieved through the f -wave Riemann solver and a novel wave-slope WE...
