Separation of intact plasmalogens and all other phospholipids by a single run of high-performance liquid chromatography.

Plasmalogens are a unique subclass of glycerophospholipids characterized by the presence of a vinyl ether bond at the sn-1 position of the glycerol backbone, and they are found in high concentration in cellular membranes of many mammalian tissues. However, separation of plasmalogens as intact phospholipids has not been reported. This article describes a high-performance liquid chromatographic m...

Separation of phospholipid molecular species by high performance liquid chromatography: potentials for use in metabolic studies.

Different molecular species of phospholipids exhibit distinctly different patterns of biologic behavior. In this minireview, the utility of HPLC for analysis of molecular species of phospholipids is illustrated in studies in which it has been demonstrated that molecular species are selectively synthesized, selectively transported, and selectively participate in enzymatic reactions. HPLC appears...

Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography of phospholipids with fluorescence detection

Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) behavior of fluorescent labeled phospholipids (PLs) was studied. Molecular species of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) derivatized with fluorescein-, thiocarbamoyl-, pyrenesulfonyl-, and dimethylaminonaphthalenesulfonyl (dansyl)-fluorophores were separated on octadecylsilica with a mobile phase of acetonitrilemethanol-water in the prese...

High-performance liquid chromatographic separation of molecular species of neutral phospholipids.

Molecular species of neutral phospholipids, phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), were resolved by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using mobile phases of acetonitrile-methanol-water containing tetraalkylammonium phosphates (TAAPs). Competitive interactions of TAAPs and analyte solutes with a reversed-phase HPLC column resulted in reduced retent...

Method Development for the Separation of Phospholipids by Subcritical Fluid Chromatography

Super/subcritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC) has been used successfully for the analysis of a variety of compounds including foods, polymers, and pharmaceuticals. 1-7 Supercritical carbon dioxide exhibits solvating power comparable to hexane and has been primarily utilized as a fluid for the separation of relatively non-polar compounds. 8 For this reason, many SFC methods have been developed as...
