Improper selection of machining parameters may cause low productivity and undesired results during machining. There are several constraints such as available power and torque, chatter stability, tool breakage etc. In order to respect such constraints proper machining parameters should be determined. In this paper, methodologies for improving 5-axis milling processes are presented. Selection of machining parameters is performed using process simulations. The developed methodologies are presented on an example airfoil.

Application of orthogonal array technique and particle swarm optimization approach in surface roughness modification when face milling AISI1045 steel parts
Face milling is an important and common machining operation because of its versatility and capability to produce various surfaces. Face milling is a machining process of removing material by the relative motion between a work piece and rotating cutter with multiple cutting edges. It is an interrupted cutting operation in which the teeth of the milling cutter enter and exit the work piece during...

متن کاملDesign, Manufacturing and Surface quality Analysis of Machining by Self-Rotary Milling Tool
One of the disadvantages of conventional milling tools is to produce a large amount of heat in cutting zone and so making the tool warmer. As a result, the tool would be worn and its life time would be reduced. Therefore, in long time machining, it is essential to change inserts and tools, continiously. A milling tool with self rotary cutting inserts was designed and manufactured that enables i...

This paper presents an approach to analytically determine the most energy efficient toolpath strategy in mechanical machining. This was achieved by evaluating the electrical energy requirement of the NC codes generated for the zag, zigzag, and rectangular contour toolpath strategies. The analytical method was validated by performing pocket milling on AISI 1018 steel with the considered toolpath...
