چکیده
DESCRIPTION COLESTID Granules and FLAVORED COLESTID Granules contain colestipol hydrochloride, which is a lipid lowering agent for oral use. Colestipol hydrochloride is an insoluble, high molecular weight basic anion-exchange copolymer of diethylenetriamine and 1-chloro-2, 3-epoxypropane, with approximately 1 out of 5 amine nitrogens protonated (chloride form). It is a light yellow water-insoluble resin which is hygroscopic and swells when suspended in water or aqueous fluids.

Heterogeneous expression of cholesterol 7 alpha-hydroxylase and sterol 27-hydroxylase genes in the rat liver lobulus.
We investigated the lobular localization and molecular level of expression of cholesterol 7 alpha-hydroxylase and sterol 27-hydroxylase, two key enzymes in bile acid synthesis, in isolated periportal and pericentral hepatocytes and by in situ hybridization of rat liver. Enzyme activity, mRNA, and gene transcription of cholesterol 7 alpha-hydroxylase were predominant in pericentral hepatocytes o...

Getting Secretory Granules Ready for Prime Time
Several rare human diseases have shed important light on the secretory pathway required for lymphocyte cytotoxicity. In this issue of Cell, Feldmann et al. identify mutations in Munc13-4 as a cause of familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. Munc13-4 appears to be involved in the priming of cytotoxic granules prior to fusion with the plasma membrane.

The effect of the bile acid sequestrant, colestipol hydrochloride, on the incidence of dimethylhydrazine-induced tumors of the large intestine was determined in male Swiss mice. The subcutaneous administration of dimethylhydrazine (15 mg/kg) produced tumors in approximately 89% of the animals with an average of 1.70 tumors per tumor-bearing animal. When carcinogen-treated animals received dieta...

Chronic canaliculitis is an uncommon disease with a protracted course. Its management is prolonged and difficult. An elderly lady was diagnosed to have left lower chronic purulent canaliculitis. Conservative treatment alone did not effect a complete cure. Canaliculotomy with removal of sulphur granules and canalicular curettage also had to be performed to achieve a permanent cure. Unlike many c...
