چکیده
Malagasy sicydiine gobies are reviewed, compared with other members of the subfamily in the Mascarene region, and a new species belonging to the genus Sicyopterus Gill, 1860 is described on the basis of material collected in northeastern Madagascar. The new species differs from Sicyopterus franouxi (Pellegrin, 1935), the only other known species of sicydiine goby inhabiting the freshwaters of Madagascar, in the number of branched rays in the second dorsal fin, the color pattern of the body and fins, the number and shape of the premaxillary teeth, and the size and number of scales on the nape and abdomen. Sicyopterus franouxi, a taxon described on the basis of a single juvenile specimen, is redescribed based on adult material. The taxonomic status of Gobius lagocephalus Pallas, 1770, a nominal sicydiine species incorrectly ascribed to the Mascarene islands of the western Indian Ocean, is discussed. This species is herein concluded to be a nomen dubium of uncertain placement beyond the

In this article, the complete mitogenome of the amphidromous, red-tailed goby, Sicyopterus lagocephalus has been amplified and sequenced by long polymerase chain reaction. This mitochondrial genome consists of 16,500 bp, with 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and a non-coding control region (CR), and its gene arrangement is identical to those of most vertebr...

The genus Carassius is a genus of the family Cyprinidae, that its species are important part of the ornamental fish industry in Iran. Due to the recent changes in the taxonomic status of the genus Carassius, it is necessary to review the taxonomic statues of its recorded populations in Iran. Therefore, the present study was conducted to provide an overview of the taxonomic status of the genus C...

Five species of the rock-climbing, gobiid subfamily Sicydiinae are now known from Ponape, Eastern Caroline Islands, Micronesia, four of which are described herein as new: Sicyopus nigriradialus, Sicyoplerus lividus, Sicyopterus eudenlatus, and Sliphodon caeruleus. This increases the number of described freshwater/estuarine fish species from that volcanic island to 15. The fifth sicydiine specie...
متن کاملSpecies diversity and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of Gobiidae in Salmanshahr, coastal area of the southern Caspian Sea
The gobies are non-commercial fishes in the Iranian waters of the Caspian Sea for which population dynamics and stock status are poorly known. In this survey, we tried to define species diversity and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of Gobiidae by using beach seine nets in Salmanshahr, the southern Caspian Sea. From March 2011 to April 2012, 224 specimens representing 4 gobiid species, belonging to...
متن کاملTaxonomic status of six populations of the Gobiids (Teleost, Gobiidae) in the southern Caspian Sea basin using COI gene
Morphological similarities of the populations and species of the genus Ponticola in the southern Caspian Sea make their identification difficult based on the provided keys. Molecular markers are used as a supplementary tools to better understanding of the fishes’ taxonomic statues. This study was conducted to understand taxonomic statues of gobiids from 6 rivers (Siah, Zaringol, Babol, Tajan, S...
