S8 and liver (S81L. n :: 14). or multivisceral grafts (MY. n :: 4). were discharged from the hospital. Sixteen patients were adults and 12 were children. Inclusion criteria included a minimum 6-month follow-up period after initial hospital discharge. Follow-up ranged from 8 to 35 months with a median follow-up of 14 months. The duration of initial hospitalization. along with the frequency. cause. and duration of each readmission. were analyzed.

Assessment of Risk Factors for Hospital Readmission after Kidney Transplantation

Background and Purpose: Hospital readmission after kidney transplantation is a real challenge for both patients and healthcare systems. Assessment of the risk factors of readmission after kidney transplantation is vital and can reduce morbidity and cost in transplant recipients and donors. The aim of the current study was to determine the risk factors of hospital readmission in patients undergo...

Defining readmission risk factors for liver transplantation recipients.

Liver transplantation (LT) is a costly but effective treatment for end-stage liver disease (ESLD). However, there are minimal data on the patterns of and risk factors for hospital readmission after LT. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of and risk factors for rehospitalization after LT. Consecutive adult patients who underwent LT at a single center (n = 208) were prospectivel...

Do older patients utilize excess health care resources after liver transplantation?

INTRODUCTION Liver transplantation is a highly effective treatment for end-stage liver disease. However, there is debate over the practice of liver transplantation in older recipients (age ≥ 60 years) given the relative shortage of donor grafts, worse post-transplantation survival, and concern that that older patients may utilize excess resources postoperatively, thus threatening the economic f...

Small intestinal transplantation in humans with or without the colon.

Under FK506-based immunosuppression, 16 cadaveric small bowel transplantations were performed in 15 recipients with (n = 5) or without (n = 11) the large bowel. Twelve (80%) patients are alive after 1.5 to 19 months, 11 bearing their grafts, of which 4 include colon. The actuarial one-year patient and graft survivals are 87.5% and 65.9%, respectively. Five grafts were lost to acute (n = 4) or c...

Transmission of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection through solid organ transplantation: confirmation via whole genome sequencing.

We describe two cases of donor-derived methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia that developed after transplantation of organs from a common donor who died from acute MRSA endocarditis. Both recipients developed recurrent MRSA infection despite appropriate antibiotic therapy, and required prolonged hospitalization and hospital readmission. Comparison of S. aureus whole geno...
