Reforestation and crop land conversion impacts on future regional air quality in the Southeastern U

چکیده
18 Land in the southeastern U.S. is expected to change, e.g., given the potential demand 19 to develop forest-to-fuel technologies or, conversely, cropification of current forests to 20 increase food production. Possible future PM2.5 and O3 air quality for two land use/land cover 21 change (LULCC) scenarios, reforestation and cropland conversion, are compared to a 22 reference case scenario for the year 2050 using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) 23 and Community Multi-scale Air Quality (CMAQ) models. Changes in air quality driven by 24 changes in climate, deposition and emissions relating to the LULCC are investigated. 25

The Sloping Land Conversion Program (also known as "Grain for Green" or the Upland Conversion Program) for converting cropland to forest is one of China's most ambitious environmental initiatives, and is one of the world's largest land-conservation programs with a budget of RMB 337 billion (over US$ 40 billion). Although environmental impacts have played a vital role in the general reasoning an...

An expected global increase in bioenergy-crop cultivation as an alternative to fossil fuels will have consequences on both global climate and local air quality through changes in biogenic emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).While greenhouse gas emissionsmay be reduced through the substitution of next-generation bioenergy crops such as eucalyptus, giant reed, and switchgrass for fossi...
متن کاملImpacts of urbanization on net primary productivity in the Pearl River Delta, China
Great changes in land use/land cover from rapid urbanization have occurred in the PearlRiver Delta, China. As the primary cause of land development in the urbanization process, urban expansion has mostly occurred on land with higher NPP, significantly impacting theregional ecosystems. The primary purpose of this study was to reveal the impacts of urbanexpansion on the regional NPP. The land cove...
