A NONPREEMPTIVE PRIORITY MAP/G/l QUEUE WITH TWO CLASSES OF CUSTOMERS

چکیده

This p p e r considers a nunpreemptive priority queue with two classes of customers. Customers in each priority class arrive to the system according to a Markovian arrival process (MAP). Since the MAP is weakly dense in the class of stationary point processes, it is a fairly general arrival process. The service times of custcomers in ea,ch priority class are independent and identically distributed according to a general distribution function which may differ among two priority classes. Using both the generating function technique and t,he matrix analytic method, we derive various formulas for the queue length and waiting time distributions. We also discuss the algorithmic implement ation of the analytical results along with numerical examples.

Approximations for the waiting - time distribution in an M / P H / c priority queue

We investigate the use of priority mechanisms when assigning service engineers to customers as a tool for service differentiation. To this end, we analyze a nonpreemptive M/P H/c priority queue with various customer classes. For this queue, we present various accurate and fast methods to estimate the first two moments of the waiting time per class given that all servers are occupied. These wait...

Tail probabilities of low-priority waiting times and queue lengths in MAP/GI/1 queues

We consider the problem of estimating tail probabilities of waiting times in statistical multiplexing systems with two classes of sources { one with high priority and the other with low priority. The priority discipline is assumed to be nonpreemptive. Exact expressions for the transforms of these quantities are derived assuming that packet or cell streams are generated by Markovian Arrival Proc...

A Preemptive Priority Queue as a Model with Server Vacations

We derive the performance measures for non-priority customers in a priority single-server queue with two types of Markovian arrival processes (MAPs). One type of customers has preemptive resume (or repeat) priority over the other. We regard the model with two types of MAP arrivals as an MAP/SM/l queue with only non-priority customers arrivals, semi-Markovian service times and some server vacati...

Distributions of the Interdeparture Times in FCFS and Nonpreemptive Priority MMAP [2]/G [2]/1 Queues

This paper deals with single server queueing systems with two classes of customers and a correlated arrival process. The focus is on the interdeparture times of each class of customer. A uniform approach is introduced to find the Laplace–Stieltjes transforms of interdeparture times for queueing systems with equal priority and nonpreemptive priority, respectively. Algorithms can be developed for...

A Queueing Theoretic Approach to Set Staffing Levels in TimeDependent DualClass Service Systems<link href=#deci12236-note-0001/>

This article addresses the optimal staffing problem for a nonpreemptive priority queue with two customer classes and a time-dependent arrival rate. The problem is related to several important service settings such as call centers and emergency departments where the customers are grouped into two classes of “high priority” and “low priority,” and the services are typically evaluated according to...
