Completing orientations of partially oriented graphs

چکیده
We initiate a general study of what we call orientation completion problems. For a fixed class C of oriented graphs, the orientation completion problem asks whether a given partially oriented graph P can be completed to an oriented graph in C by orienting the (non-oriented) edges in P . Orientation completion problems commonly generalize several existing problems including recognition of certain classes of graphs and digraphs as well as extending representations of certain geometrically representable graphs. We study orientation completion problems for various classes of oriented graphs, including k-arcstrong oriented graphs, k-strong oriented graphs, quasi-transitive oriented graphs, local tournament, acyclic local tournaments, locally transitive tournaments, locally transitive local tournaments, intournaments, and oriented graphs which have directed cycle factors. We show that the orientation completion problem for each of these classes is either polynomial time solvable or NP-complete. We also show that some of the NP-complete problems become polynomial time solvable when the input oriented graphs satisfy certain extra conditions. Our results imply that the representation extension problems for proper interval graphs and for proper circular arc graphs are polynomial time solvable, which generalize a previous result.

Riemann-Roch Theory for Graph Orientations
We develop a new framework for investigating linear equivalence of divisors on graphs using a generalization of Gioan’s cycle-cocycle reversal system for partial orientations. An oriented version of Dhar’s burning algorithm is introduced and employed in the study of acyclicity for partial orientations. We then show that the Baker-Norine rank of a partially orientable divisor is one less than th...
متن کاملNote on inseparability graphs of matroids having exactly one class of orientations
The inseparability graph of an oriented matroid is an invariant of its class of orientations. When an orientable matroid has exactly one class of orientations the inseparability graph of all its orientations is in fact determined by its non-oriented underlying matroid. From this point of view it is natural to ask if inseparability graphs can be used to characterize matroids which have exactly o...
متن کاملOriented threshold graphs
Threshold graphs are a prevalent and widely studied class of simple graphs. We generalize this class of graphs to oriented graphs (directed simple graphs). We give generalizations to four of the most commonly used definitions and show their equivalence in the oriented case. We then enumerate the number of these oriented threshold graphs which relates to the Fibonacci numbers, and finish by find...
متن کاملPartitions and orientations of the Rado graph
We classify the countably infinite oriented graphs which, for every partition of their vertex set into two parts, induce an isomorphic copy of themselves on at least one of the parts. These graphs are the edgeless graph, the random tournament, the transitive tournaments of order type ωα, and two orientations of the Rado graph: the random oriented graph, and a newly found random acyclic oriented...
متن کاملNew skew equienergetic oriented graphs
Let $S(G^{sigma})$ be the skew-adjacency matrix of the oriented graph $G^{sigma}$, which is obtained from a simple undirected graph $G$ by assigning an orientation $sigma$ to each of its edges. The skew energy of an oriented graph $G^{sigma}$ is defined as the sum of absolute values of all eigenvalues of $S(G^{sigma})$. Two oriented graphs are said to be skew equienergetic iftheir skew energies...
