A generalized Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook model for nonequilibrium flows

چکیده
The Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook BGK model approximates the collision term of the Boltzmann equation by a single relaxation process from a nonequilibrium state to an equilibrium state. From the BGK model, the Navier–Stokes, Burnett, and Super-Burnett equations can be derived. However, the success of these derived macroscopic equations in the description of highly nonequilibrium flow is limited. In order to extend the validity of the BGK model to cope with complicated physical relaxation processes, we propose a generalized BGK GBGK model, where the gas distribution function settles to an equilibrium state through multiple particle collisional processes. The GBGK model can be used to capture the transitional, rotational, and vibrational nonequilibrium flow phenomena. More importantly, it may provide a theoretical framework to derive new macroscopic governing equations which are valid in the near continuum flow regime. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. Nonequilibrium Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook model for nitrogen shock structure
This Brief Communication is about the study of diatomic gas shock structure based on the nonequilibrium gas-kinetic Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (BGK) model, where an additional rotational energy relaxation equation is added. The BGK Navier–Stokes flow solver is extended to solve the nonequilibrium gas kinetic model. The numerical solutions are compared with the experiment measurements and direct simu...
متن کاملA Kinetic Perspective on k-ε Turbulence Model and Corresponding Entropy Production
In this paper, we present an alternative derivation of the entropy production in turbulent flows, based on a formal analogy with the kinetic theory of rarefied gas. This analogy allows for proving that the celebrated k − e model for turbulent flows is nothing more than a set of coupled BGK (Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook)-like equations with a proper forcing. This opens a novel perspective on this model...

متن کاملMultiple-temperature kinetic model for continuum and near continuum flows
A gas-kinetic model with multiple translational temperature for the continuum and near continuum flow simulations is proposed. The main purpose for this work is to derive the generalized Navier-Stokes equations with multiple temperature. It is well recognized that for increasingly rarefied flowfields, the predictions from continuum formulation, such as the Navier-Stokes equations lose accuracy....
متن کاملA Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook Approximation to Stochastic Scalar Conservation Laws
and study its approximation in the sense of Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (a BGKlike approximation for short). In particular, we aim to describe the conservation law (1.1) as the hydrodynamic limit of the stochastic BGK model, as the microscopic scale ε goes to 0. The literature devoted to the deterministic counterpart, i.e. corresponding to the situation Φ = 0, is quite extensive (see [1], [11], [15],...
